Isaacs mum is a religious lady who one day goes nutty after hearing messages from god, these messages convince her to sacrifice poor little isaac to "prove herself". Isaac see's this through a crack in the door and in fear runs into the dreaded basement!!! So starts one of the weirdest yet most brilliant oldschool shooter/puzzlers you can get.

Staples of good oldschool design...simple to play - CHECK, Hard as nails - CHECK, gorgeous 2D sprite work - CHECK, addictive - CHECK.

This game takes level structure from early 2d zelda games, where you progress through rooms collecting keys from fallen foes no less, but has the shooting mechanics of something like smash TV. You can collect so many items/upgrades it always stays fresh(so to speak lol) and the character designs are fantastically sick and twisted, as is so typical of Edmund McMillen's(team meat/indie game the movie) work.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is oldschool design at its sickeningly beautiful best, and if you enjoyed the quirky design of Super Meat Boy then you'll likely love this game too.

***Just remember to get the "Rebirth" version of the game as its significantly upgraded over the older "wrath of the lamb" flash based version.
