This game is what got me into PC gaming. I was just a kid when this game was at its peak and I've forever been trying to recapture the thrill.

This is from an era of gaming and a community that didn't take itself too seriously. Forget realism. Give me 90s ACTION MOVIE realism. You can jump really far distances, make insanely accurate shots from far out, and you can't help but unleash your inner John Woo when you play this game.

This game always had charm and fun, fast-paced gameplay, but until recently it didn't have a slick modern client that allows you to enjoy that gameplay at a resolution above 800x600 (seriously). The new client is far easier to adopt and a great way to introduce new players to an absolutely critical title in the history of online FPS games.

Kudos to the creators. This truly dropped my jaw. I hope a new generation of gamers can discover the absurdity, action, and unbridled joy of Action! Sorry, AQtion! ;)

Now that CS2 is out I can confidently say that all the problems I found with CSGO over the years remain but now the game is buggier and crappier than ever.

I uninstalled again because the game kept crashing and then not allowing me to reconnect. There are hundreds of people if not more experiencing this for months now but there is very little being dedicated to this game (or the dev team is horribly managed I dunno which). I suspect they are basically in maintenance mode and all dev work goes into content to sell.

Here's a link to other people with the same problem I have:

If your platform constantly requires this degree of user troubleshooting just to play a game you developed in house you need to ask some tough questions.

This game has so much potential but honestly smells similar to the Diablo franchise in 2023: nostalgia marketing with very little effort.

This is a very fun game.

To maximize your experience I suggest naming everyone in your team after a real-life friend. That way when one of them bugs out and starts shooting one of your other friends it really ups the psychological impact. You're like, "WHY ARE YOU SHOOTING HER, THOM!? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!"

You get attached to your team members. When one of them gets killed you really feel it. The mechanics of this game feel quite unique and it's a nice change of pace from the frenzied competitive FPS and MOBA games out there.

I know it's herecy - but I prefer League of Legends. League is slightly less snowbally and lane mechanics are consequently slightly less important. While Dota diehards say this makes League a newb game I think it puts more emphasis on teamplay and collectively maximizing your CC. I think it's good that a team can collectively come back from being behind with some smart play-making. This is much harder in Dota2 as far as I have experienced.

The voice chat is a huge advantage over League of Legends. For a game so reliant on communication and cooperation, the lack of voice chat in League of Legends is brutal. That is a huge deal for Dota2 and an undeniable improvement.

The game is brutal for newbs. It's hard to learn and the community is crazy blamey and toxic. People will hate you. People will scream at you. Learn to deal with it or just move on to another game. The player base is slightly more mature for Dota2 than League so that's a plus. You should also expect to deal with people who act strangely and speak very broken english to the point where you're not sure if they're trolling or actually some foreign guy who doesn't understand what anyone is saying. Keeps it interesting.

This is a game for people who like games that are difficult to master and reward good mechanics. The learning curve is steep - but the games can be super rewarding because as you get matched against better opponents you really need to think on your feet if you want to win. If you're a competitive gaming fan - you should definitely give Dota2 a try. Try to be encouraging to your team mates especially when they mess up because once someone is on tilt it's very hard to win.

Beautiful game and a huge world to explore. Sometimes the open-endedness of this game can become overwhelming and almost takes away from the experience. That said - when I find myself feeling that way I start trying to kill NPCs. haha. Exploring the dungeons is fun and it's just refreshing to play a game that isn't purely colouring inside the lines. Modern RPGs seem to hand-hold so much now that it's nice to be able to kill some NPC just because he has a stupid face.

This is a great game for people who love to explore and just do their own thing. If you like a methodical game where you always know what to do next - this probably isn't your best bet.

If you like the Diablo games this is worth a try. It's a fun clicky no-brainer game. That said, Path of Exiles is a much better version of the same genre. I would recommend this game to people but I'd recommend Path of Exiles more strongly to the same crowd.

A fun game for a few days of smashing things but soon it's just the pursuit of loot and farming and that's when I checkout. Gameplay is tired but well-executed.

Truly the spiritual successor to the Diablo franchise. If you loved the click-heavy action rpg style of the Diablo games this will be heaven for you. It looks better and has way more complicated skilling system. I stongly recommend veterans of this game style to play hardcore because everything takes on so much more meaning and the items you find more value. It hurts when you die - but at least it makes the game feel like it has stakes.

My biggest criticism of this game ultimately would just be that I've played tons of Diablo already and so this was fun for a week or two - but ultimately I burnt out on the genre. This game really is about loot. Clicking and killing and looking for loot. It's a good game - but the concept is a bit tired for many mature gamers.

Still though - if you liked Diablo you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Update: The horrific experience of trying to update this game alone should keep most people away. I am on a 300mpbs connection and yet can't manage to sustain more than 900kbps on the patcher. I really wanted to give this game another try but the launcher is so poor I can't understand why anyone still plays this game honestly. Not sure if this game still shows me as only playing 5.5 hours but I played a lot more than that.

This is a pretty well-made game. The bad news is that it has the same pointless grind-for-gear feel that so many MMOs suffer from. Levelling becomes excruciatingly slow and boring and after a while you wonder why you'd even bother. I don't play games that feel like a second job. If I wanted a second job I'd get one. I want fun. This game can be fun - but just getting to max level is a pain and besides looking for better loot it really feels like the game goes nowhere.

The PvP warzone is kind of fun - but it's so chaotic and you spend most of your time just getting shot in the back. It doesn't feel very skillful and quickly burned out for me. Maybe if I had done more large scale raiding or something but ultimately I just didn't see what made me want to play this MMO over any others.

The truth is - this is a solid game but it's just like all the other grind for gear MMOs out there with labour intensive quests that are repetitive and don't feel like fun. I personally prefer a game like ArcheAge simply for all the crazy stuff you can do - like get killed and robbed. Newbs may not like it - but at least there are other things to do than wander around collecting bug sacs.

Don't get caught in the grind. If a game feels like a job - you're either playing it wrong or the game is the wrong game. Life's too short.

Early Access Review
RFUND IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE ISSUES. IF YOU SPEND A HANDFUL OF HOURS TRYING TO FIX ISSUES THEY WILL DENY YOUR REFUND. JUST SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE. IF YOU DOWNLOAD A GAME AND IT DOES NOT WORK JUST REFUND. BUYER BEWARE.

If you don't mind horrendously long load times and ridiculous poorly optimized games then this might be for you. The player base in this game is hardcore because they more or less have to be. I run a beastly machine with 3xSSDs in array and this game still runs poorly on my computer and not because of settings. Mostly it tries to run off my integrated graphics instead of my dedicated GPU. I don't know who can run this game. My friend who also bought this game tried to run it on his workstation and had the same results. This game has been in alpha for years and I'm pretty sure if it ever gets finished the playerbase will be dead beforehand. Back away slowly.

If you somehow manage to have hardware this game actually likes there is essentially no way to find your friends so for a game with built-in voice chat you'll find this game surprisingly anti-social. This game actively seems to deter players from bringing friends with you. It used to have huge issues with hackers but that seems to have calmed down at least.

This is more of a concept than a game. The concept is great. The game is horrid. Save your money for a project that might actually get finished. In my opinion, this game more less perfectly embodies the dark side of early access games. They hook you with the exciting development talk and then put out a lousy turd of a game and pocket your money. I can't wait to see what these guys don't work on next.

IF YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH EARLY ACCESS - REFUND IMMEDIATELY. If you wait and try to fix it they simply deny the refud. It's horrible customer service and I regret my purchases on steam. I will spend no further money. If you have an issue with a game you buy out of the starting gates - REFUND IMMEDIATELY. BUYER BEWARE!

I was very excited to play this game when I downloaded it about a week ago. Of course as soon as I installed it - I ran into trouble: it would only open in 300x300 resolution. Why this setting even exists baffles me - but after about twenty minutes of googling I edited my dayz.cfg and manually inserted reasonable resolution values. Then I booted the game again and was very pleased to see that it looked normal. Unfortunately, for no apparent reason the mouse cursor still would not render, and so changing settings or simply selecting a community server proved to be super frustrating. DayZ looks like a really cool idea - but chances are I will never know because I simply don't want to put 3 hours of work in just to surpass the options menu and enter the game.

I am all for supporting the development community - but this game isn't even close to being ready. Steam shouldn't even sell games this early along in development. Also - hasn't this game been in 'alpha' for ages? What if it never gets finished which seems likely.

These early access games are a complete cash grab. Save your money. Don't invest until the game is officially released. I'd recommend this game to the retired or unemployed that have time to burn - but they could just become actual game testers and get paid for it somewhere. So in the end, I would recommend this very interesting game to exactly no one.
