This isn't about the correlation between itself and games that came out after it.

This isn't about my skill level vs yours.

This isn't about how the game has aged, or how the development team has treated it.

This is about Team fortress two having easily one of the most toxic communities that have ever existed in video gaming. Worse than CS:GO and right up there with blockland. Ya know what that is kiddo?


If you are a person who has never played team fortress 2 before, reading this now and are looking for a game to play for a few hours a week with friends. Find another game. You will not enjoy team fortress 2 and neither will any of your friends. That is not because of the meet your match update, that is not because of microtransations and cosmetics, and that is not because you will be brand new to the game and have to learn and work your way up.

It will be because every casual game you go to will be filled to the brim with the following 24 people, either on your team or the other one:

A) 6-8 people of a moderate skill level who never play without their "friends" and basically do nothing but pubstomp all day because they lack the skills necessary to do anything further.

B) Blatant cheaters with brand new accounts sometimes in teams of 4 or more [once again playing with "friends"]

C) People with bad point differentials harrasing teammates while doing nothing of value themselves.

D) People who refuse to take good advice from experienced players.

E) People who are experienced, yet purposely give bad advice to new players.

F) People who think low skill leveled strategy that literally anyone could do are worth trolling/trash talking/mom jokes/etc.



I could fill the whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ alphabet. Oh what's that you say while your fedora blows off in the gentle breeze? There are all sorts of other game modes? I'd be happy to explain to you how literally every community server will kick you if you dont pay monthy for reserve slots, and how competitive mode is even more jacked with self righteous blowhards than casual is, and how mann vs machine has become a boring and repetitive cash grab after only 14 tours. But I think I've made you read enough today.

The devs aren't ruining this game, and mann co crates aren't ruining this game. The idiots in the comment section are.

Edited and revised December 9th, 2017. Looks like the Team fortress 2 team has finally gotten off it's ass and actually came out with an update after OVER TWO YEARS, Jungle inferno! Or should I say they ripped the entire update off of the community workshop save one map. Also in the works right now is Heals for Reals! A totally for charity shill of a twitchfest circlejerk where your favorite TF2 stars will steal your money and items so scrap.tf can trash everything they can't use. Such is how this community works, has always worked, and WILL always work.

I suppose you can guess which side of this debate I'm on, but I'll let the professional speak for me. If you dont trust the link, or cant be bothered with a 20 minute video, thats fine.
