NitW has the best story and characters for a 'game' in recent memory.
Nothing new here, just really really well done storytelling.

If you're a '90's teen from the woods, ignore the deja vu. That's just the pills.

It's grindy because that's what you're here for. It's good because it keeps drawing you back for one more hunt.
Controls are precise, no button mashing here, very smooth and when you get to the item/ammo wheels, almost too smooth to the point of a simple stick error could cost you dearly (though Type 2 radial controls helps with that).

I play on a PS3 controller and I gotta say, it's a great time. With friends, even more fun and often silly.
Don't mind the elitists, this game is as casual as it gets until you become the elitist.

It's new player prohibitive in that you have to learn a metric **** ton of little things that the game doesn't explicitly describe and the sheer overwhelming info drop it plants on your face right off the starting gun. The tutorials are slightly informative at best, though it is said this is the most approachable of all MH games. I am a new MH player and it took me a good bit to get my bearings.

However, if you're patient and put some effort into learning its nuances, it's a really really satisfying game for that itch when you just want to go kill (or better capture) a monster after work with or without friends.

Pros...
Each monster, area and bit of gear is very nuanced and complex. It might not be immediately apparent but when you put all the numbers into a stressful combat situation where precision is rewarded, that's where it shines. Secrets to find and combos to learn; timing to perfect and builds to master. The rabbit hole goes quite deep leading to some nice theorycrafting and testing while honing your skills before some heart pounding fights.

It also looks good, sounds great, moderately fast paced combat and once you get the hang of it, gameplay is dreamy good.

Oh, and its name Monster Hunter speaks volumes to its gameplay. It's not just waltz in and crush some dragon skulls. You track them and hunt them down to break their spirit like the vicious bastid you are.

Cons...
It takes a while to get used to the hit boxes of monster attacks but you learn them and learn to exploit them.
The whole layout and functionality of the game is unfamiliar and will need time to get accustomed.
Anti-piracy can be a bummer for weaker PCs as it chews up resources.
Story is kinda meh.. whatever.

Most people start with a longsword for a reason. Very straightforward and powerful weapon which is not too complicated.
Once you get your bearings though, each weapon is a world unto itself and that's a whole lot of fun. It's even deeper when you get into groups and specialize roles in a fight often with multiple giant monsters on the field.

I started with the Insect Glaive because I like hyper mobility and had I done it again I would have gone with a longsword for at least the first dozen hours. That said, putting in the time to learn such a complex weapon as the insect glaive is so rewarding. You can pull off really fun and flasy stunts while still being very effective in battle... that is until you have to sharpen it every... well.. you'll see. It's biggest downfall is it doesn't keep sharpness well at all. In fact, it's the worst melee weapon in that respect. But holy smokes, when you git gud at it, you can easily outdamage a longsword until you have to sharpen again so it all evens out really. Quite well balanced.

8/10 ... because flinging poop at pesky dinosaurs and dragons interfering in your serious murder business is ever so satisfying. Srsly. If you're trying to capture a monster, they'll steal your prey and kill it on you. Always pack some poop shot.

This is as close to real Tabletop Battletech as it gets. I feels so genuine without all the dice rolling and checking off boxes. Holy crow they did a great job even keeping the early 90's aesthetic. Bugs aside, this is why I backed it. I am 13 years old again playing BT with a kinda creepy 20 yr old dude DM'ing and some friends from down the street munching metal and pooping corpses.

GG Hair Brained and cheers to Jordan, Paradox, everyone. I played Beta and the finished product is so much more than I ever expectesd. Also cheers to Mike and MItch. You guise are amazing oddities that should not be on this planet. :D <3

A juggernaut of fun. Seriously, try local two player. It's a helluva time with friends watching and playing while everyone screams suffering and bursts out in joyous victory. I didn't know if it would work well as a party game but it was a grand slam. We played this game for hours and hours.

Post Review Edit:
Yep my instincts were correct and this is so much fun it's well beyond funny. What a trip once dashing, jumping and weapons come into an orchestra of doom. It is like dancing. There is a rhythm to it.

Terrific. This is going to set the bar for a lot of games to come not so much in story or progression but in pure unrivaled VR mayhem. There are a lot of glaring flaws as it is early access, however, this reminds me of when I first met Quake 3 more than 15+ (gosh) years ago.
It's that kind of unbridled fun.

I can't wait for multiplayer competitive if that is even on the table. I'm going to die so much and enjoy every kill even more. Multiplayer co-op is a no-brainer.

Looking forward to many more great elements that expand and compute with an exceptional core idea.

The gameplay is simply divine (once you get the hang of it and it's intuitive indeed).

Consider Quake, Half-Life, Dark Souls, Rocket League... past and modern instant classics. That is how good the nougaty core of this game is. I wait with baited breath.

Ori is amazing. I'm so glad I finally got a chance to play.
It's a stunningly beautiful Metroid style game.
The mechanics, design and story are scarily good. It definitely deserves the praise it has received. It isn't an instant classic but it stands on big shoulders and it rises to the challenge.

It's hard but moreso a trial of wits. You'll know why about 1/3rd into the game and it just expands on it from there. This is what a great modern platformer looks and feels like through and through.

If you are playing with the D-Pad as I prefer, do not forget the stick (thinking of Xbox or PS3/4 controller) for certain techniques. It makes all the difference in some instances.

Controller is a must.

Yeah, contraversy or other crashy blageddy bloo.
If you can run this game properly as I can, it's one of the best real adventure / horror games for Vive so far.

It being an actual game, it reminds me a lot of Half Life 2 combined with Left 4 Dead sans the physics puzzles. More of a traditional key-finder, puzzle solver >> progress to more awful things.

Very simple but in its simplicity there is depth and drum-roll... a story. The character you play is actually interesting and I haven't finished it but I am compelled to. I expect there is a why to discover through this morass.

Raw Data - great fun. Bullet Sorrow, excellent but too predictable. But this.. is on another level.

Only The Solus Project has really brought this level of storytelling to a game made for Vive. Now there are two that can stand on the platform of what we expect out of adventure games.

So, Bravisimo. I can't wait to finish it. Alas, I have to sleep. I could say more but spoiling it would make me a bad person. Squeeze the duck is all I can say.

I played this for almost 3 hours in a single session, standing, shooting, dodging, ducking... I never play VR for more than an hour at a time. It's that good.

Just play it. You won't regret it.

If this is evidence of what is to really come with VR games (as gruelingly tough as they are to make well) we all have a bright future. One big step forward into such a new frontier.

Keep supporting VR Devs!! Cheers!!!

A lot of hype over Vive itself is that is gets you moving, theoretically.
But only a few games really work it while also being a lot of fun.
This is one of them.

Duck and weave -- hit Bullet time -- turn and shotty to the face here -- teleport and Uzi to the face there...
Despite the familiar VR baggage which is heavy now (aherm another wave shooter), this is one of the more fun games VIve has to offer especially single player.

I have done more squats in the past day or two than I have in the past two months.

It's really a pleasure to play.

I can't wait for more open games that aren't wave shooters and more inventive stories such as Half-Life but for now, this will soak up quite a few hours. It's easy but it's also quite replayable because it's just plain fun.

There are some aggregious lackings, however. A simple option to quit would be nice when we're done and want to rest a bit.

Descent is BACK and this team is doing a great job! It's coarse in a lot of ways as early access but it captures the essence of why Descent was so good nearly perfectly. Arcade action 6dof shooter ecstacy. The nuances are there. They pulled it off! There is indeed a ways to go before it is finished but what they have accomplished is astounding.

Then you play it in Vive VR. It's not perfect but it is hands down the best sitting M/KB game I have by far. It is that exhilarating to dodge and trichord around enemies filling them full of fusion or plasma. Don't forget to set a re-center key. Drift isn't bad at all but I find myself using it often shifting myself in my chair.

If you haven't played this in VR, you should or you should get a headset if not just for this. It's a whole different animal with the same soul, VR is done that well. D:U VR is simply incredible.

Hint: set up your preferred keybinds or whatever on a regular screen before you launch it in VR. VR settings menus haven't been implemented yet. But once you do.. holy mother of four letter words.

So, yeah. I didn't think anyone could make another Descent game right as no one has had the courage for over 15 years. A few games have tried and something like Strike Vector is enteretaining. But it's not Descent.

These guys did it and are fleshing it out. You'll know it when you play it. I wish I had more time on my hands to play the ever living crap out of this game even in early access as it is now.

Irrational Exuberance sets the bar for Vive surreal atmosphere and superb intuitive gameplay (of which there is none... which is also why it is so good). It is truly otherworldly and exploits the best aspects VR has to offer even for a few minute long demo.

Of all the "games" I have played on the Vive, this one is far and away the one I have replayed the most.

I wait with baited breath for a true release and I will wait patiently for it to be done with the care and artistic prowess this demo demonstrates.
