This game rewards all of the traits that have given real life warlords success: valuing quality over quantity when building an army, making powerful allies, being patient, being ruthless, picking your battles, knowing when to retreat and when you can afford to take risks.

I believe if you play this game at any difficulty, you're going to be challenged and rewarded. While Warband was in many ways better and contained more depth, the combat system was a bit too easy. With the addition of firearms in this game, any careless misstep can result in losing a battle, losing an army, losing hours of investment.

This game is rough around all edges, is buggy as hell, and can get tedious. It's also one of the purest strategy games around, with an often gleeful third person combat system to boot.
