Early Access Review
Of all the games I have I would have to say this is my favorite. You can probably figure this from all the hours I have already in to it. I have never played this in the multiplayer mode nor do I ever plan to do so. Of all the games I have on steam this is the only one I have attempted to write a review.
The hook for me is in the survival aspect. I love the new leveling format. I think there are 53 things to level up in. Ffrom different types of bullets to things like leather crafting. Its not like the old grinding systems either. Every time you shoot a bow, open a bag of trash your accumulating points to spend in the areas of your choice.
I like to start a game by pre generating a map. I do so till I find one that suits me. I try to aviod maps with a lot of burnt ground, snow covered and destroyed areas. I usually play the game useing the following set ups

Random world
Longest day light
Zombies never run
24 hour cycle at 120 minutes
supply drops daily
and supply location marked on map

The rest is pretty much default settings. Once I can make reinforced concrete and I have my fort built, which is sometime close to the first 7 day hord attack. I then switch to medium zombie spawn. One of the greatest features is to be able to tailor a game to your individul playing style. I'm 65 now and don't have the reflexes I had as a younger man. So my setup may seem a little weak for some.
I do miss the longer day light options we had in the earlier versions and would like to see a little more control over the types or sizes in the areas allowed, during the map generations. The generated worlds are real looking and have come a long way since the beginning. This feature adds a lot of the "replay ability" factor that is lacking in a lot of good games.
I don't care for the gore and blood and would love to see an option to turn this off, but can put up with it.
I do feel however that the game could of been considered a finish product ages ago. For some developers the game would have. The devs here seem bent on on adding to and polishing things up. They have fixed things like the the spawning of zombies. They used to drop out of the sky at a distance as you approached. Now they come up from the ground as if they are awakened from sleep by your presence. There are still constant updates with fixes and new content added. What a fun game. Keep up the good work.
