This the type of game you gift to your best friend and you get a gift rejection notice. Huge fan of Payday and Payday 2 (and own them too). I was hopeful till I started the first mission. Within seconds- I knew Payday had lost its roots.

Finally a shooter that feels like shooters used to. Enemy behavior is pretty tactical. AI uses grenades, flares, flanking, and shields so far. Graphics are good. Had to Jack the Gamma way up so I could see (I understand its a horror game). Game objects react to gunfire-usually exploding on impact all the way down to paper on desks. I was a fan of the first F.E.A.R. game but didn't care for the others in that series. This game, is what F.E.A.R. 2 and 3 should have been (so far). Game autosaves at each point (no biggie). Wasn't looking for any intricate story plot-just some good ole run and gun. You get that here.

I was almost immediate that I liked ATS. Been through some of the states, and the real-terrain mapping of some of the areas is very cool. Like GTA, you can have a whole bunch of viewpoints of the Truck while you drive. Unlike GTA, you won't find hackers planting clowns around your truck from nowhere-and destroying your chances of losing a contract.

In ATS, you are responsible for your damages-that you do to yourself. Bank Loans and Built-In Economy is a good feature. MOD support is a big plus as most game devs don't have enough common-sense to include it in their AAA titles in today's times. The replay value will always be there so I thank SCS for including those tools to the players.

Damage System and Economics go hand-and-hand.

Cops, Red-Lights, Scales, Tolls, Sleep (Or like me and my buddy like to say: GRABBING A COFFEE!)....it seems very well thought out. Life of a Trucker. Would like to see the ability to actually get out of the truck and walk around in the future. You see NPCs doing various in towns along the road-even Police Interventions, Construction slow-downs, Paramedic situations, and detours that hinder your speeding / progress.

If you buy it (as I recommend), Add mods that give heavy traffic at bare minimum. This increases the realism a lot especially in cities. I have about 30 mods loaded from Enhanced Graphics, Modded Economy, New Trucks, New Environmental Effects, ect. I never saw myself having fun playing in Trucks outside of Grand Theft Auto or driving game WITHOUT Wonton Violence in an open world atmosphere: Enter American Truck Simulator.

Since December 25th, 2011 I have owned this game and boy, its time for a review indeed.

The Graphics are very good for a 2011 release even in 2018 with a GTX 1080 8GB card. I love the additional Iron Sights and 1st person mode that was missing from the rest of the series before it.

Do you want to play online with a Modded Skin(s) to bring up that quality? 4K sounds good right? Maybe 2K? Sorry won't happen here (unless you want a permaban and the lose of 60 bucks because of it). No mods allowed online. You can even be banned for Friends only servers when using mods!

Rockstar has blown a very good release seven years later. It seems almost enept at combating hackers-which always seem to be on all online servers.

Want to do a private server with friends to avoid the online S**t Show? You can do that. BUT.....Heist missions are not available for local servers-only online. This means that, as you finish a big hiest with no online players close enough to stop you, all of a sudden, a hacker on the online server will have a surprise for you;) Search 'GTA V Online Hacking' before you buy for online mode. It's not much to do on friend-only servers and it gets boring quickly. I usually find killer clowns are teleported to me on missions who are invincible-then they kill me. How about when hackers use a UFO that teleports above you and, holds you captive? Nothing you can do. Lets not forget 'Insta-Explode' where the server hacker(s) explodes you so many times, your game crashes.

I've seen nothing but pleas from the community to address the hacking issue and fix vairous graphic, and performace issues. Rockstar has been mute to me personally (sent email and screenshots) and players who were loving the games initial release (Which was also bogged with Server Crashes due to overload). RS's inabilty to patch around OpenV Editting software to close the hacking issue is mind-numbing though. Permabans seem not to work either. One hacker told me he remembered me trolled me the whole match. I lost thousands of dollars online to people like him. Everytime I try to have hope something is done and reinstall it, I'm presented with the same unpatched issues that has been going on now over four years.

SEVEN years later: Why are there no New 'Official' Map(s) DLC???? No new maps or guns were introduced since release. They give you cars for days for DLC but they cost too much ingame-money or hackers blow it up the minute you can afford it........Pay $19.99 and get a Shark Card ingame! Wait! They go up in price too!

Too repetative after about 3 hours of play for about a month straight. Rockstar.....come on man.

Thumbs down.

OK....MIGHT edit this post later but as it stands, this is a 5.5 out of 10 stars type of game.

Don't Boo me YET!

I was part of the Beta since the 4th or 5th wave. Saw a lot of good promise here-and don't get me wrong, it's good but the only way RS Vietnam is going to live on, is if the SDK tools for this game come out-SOON (I'll explain later).

The Good: RS is by far a very playable game. Since the beta, I have not had a single crash to windows 10. I played maybe two hours straight at one point-still smooth, fps about 40-60 with a R9 380/ 16GB RAM/ 6300-FX Chipset-nothing overclocked.

That's because of course, the engine is dirt old and instead of going full UT4 Engine, the devs decided on 'UT 3.5'.
As a matter of fact, RO fans will know, not much change in the game mechanics has happened in....3 games now over the course of about 5-6 years?

Either way, UT3 has had major support in years past and, EPIC has had much reason to support their product. Let's face it: In 2017-its dated. That's what your GTX 1080/1070 or, RX480/ RX580 will give you....in 2017:P

Sound Effects: Probably the best so far of the RO series and, the best sounds so far I think as far as Vietnam Era games.

Support Roles: Just as any other UT3 Engine will give you: Scripted. Sure, the Cobra and Loach are playable. However, with limitations set forth in the engine, I'm sure you piloting a Spooking, or doing a live Napalm strike, is not going to happen even in this games DLC. BTW: I didn't see a Huey not ONCE tonight....are those DLC (SMDH)???

Graphics: Again, that SDK set needs to come out....UT3 was never good with Hi Res textures in my opinion. Cartoon-ish but very exceptable for a game. Poly Counts are OK but hopefully the SDK comes out and we can have someone put together some custom HD meshes.

Maps: This is where the review goes "not so good". Just upon principle, the amount of map content here in relation to the other RO series is sad. I feel that whatever 'DLC Maps' are coming down the pipe, they should have been here on day one release. I was part of the beta and was like, "Man, can't wait to see what other maps are going to be in the full release!"

Unfortunately, the exact opposite happened. There were no other maps released outside of the Beta (AT PRESENT) and I was just waiting to see what other content was there at release.
Nope. Nothing.

All I see it more customazation of the character models (UT Engine 3.5 models that is).

RO FANS: LETS KILL A BOT-WAVE: NOT! No bots here! What the fuuu........They've been in all the other RO series games? what happened?

Fortunately, I paid less for it pre-order w/ deluxe (just more skins???) version.

Final Verdict: YES its a 'buy' for something DIFFERENT in years past as far as wargames (I'd love more nam games-sadly that pool is dry in the market) but, content for this game just seems like another RO Expansion pack and not a new game that will sit alone for the series.

Final Thought: If this was created on UT4 Engine as the makers of Incountry decided to do (last I checked they were still operating), I would have probably given it a perfect 10.

EDIT=2020

Its 'good' but still looking for a 'Great' Vietnam game to be made.....by somebody:P

Its sad but true at that same time-AVP is much better than Colonial Marines. I have both and I must say-this older game beat it hands down. Rebellion did a great job over SEGA's CO.....

I've been a fan since Payday but always felt is was to abrupt and not enough content. Im happy to see the devs dumping loads of content into this one. The buldozer engine is good at running this type of game, but hopefully by Payday3 they scrap the engine all together. I experience on average 50fps (good enough seeing the eye can only process 30 fps anyway), and no heist is the same so gameplay is always unpredicatable. A can of goods here.
