I don't even know where to start. In recent years, there has been a pretty large movement around the idea of taking obsolete digital aesthetics and reinterpreting them as purposeful artistic decisions. Synthwave relives a non-existent fever dream of the 80s, vaporwave turns 90s software brochures into music, while PS1 horror demakes and retro shooters make nostalgia accessible and fresh.

Cruelty Squad is none of those. Cruelty Squad is Rainbow Six as sensory violence. It's Hitman as cacophony. It takes every reasonable artistic decision and intentionally goes the opposite direction to spite the player, the industry and art itself in a surreal, dadaistic hissy fit.

It's a revolution. It's everything the modern socioeconomic consciousness has been fighting for, and everything it has been waging war against. Cruelty Squad is everything.

It's also the stupidest game I've ever played. Recommended.
