Early Access Review
Just one of the adventures I had:

I have spent the last few hours / days trying to get ready to fight Bonemass [the third boss]. I heard tales of him taking half-an-hour to beat. I'd watched guides. Sailed to his island and set up a portal back to main base. Spent ages flattening a path to his activation skull. Everything.

Had my ass handed to me and died, but my biggest mistake was moving my portal closer to the fight. I reasoned that if I died, I'd have less distance to run to my body.

I did not know that the fight did not end on your death (it'd never happened to me before). I also did not know how much the space the fight would need.

As I came back out of the portal, Bonemass was in front of me. I picked up the items from my body and ran back into the portal.

Portal [bm] [Unconnected]

He'd smashed my portal. My only other ship was about a one hour sail away, and I did not have enough equipment to build another. I could get it, but I figured it'd be faster to sail my other one. I only needed to rebuild a portal, after all.

Set sail. Wearing expensive Iron armour, and with all my top weapons - it was only a ship-moving exercise. And I only decided last minute to take the ship instead of going back to the Crypts for iron.

Of course, day turned into night, a storm started, and with the rain I could see nothing, so was driving blind using the map. Luckily the wind was in my favour and I was going a nice fast speed.

Straight into an island, in the middle of the Ocean, damaging my ship to half-health. 'The Plains'. [A very dangerous area I was not close to being ready for]. Two little goblins were attacking my ship to get to me. I didn't know if it was possible, but I had to try and push my half beached ship back into the water.

Realistically, I knew I was going to die, and was already counting the cost and time to get back what I was about to lose - no way I could recover this body.

I was one side of the ship, deciding whether to try and defend myself or just move really fast, and they were on the other side, trying to get directly to me - through the ship. So I just decided to get back in the ship and see if it was in the water enough to Paddle it out before they destroyed it. I had nothing to lose.

It didn't work. But here my luck turned around. In their efforts to get to me, the goblins --pushed my ship back into the water-- My heart both stopped, and was beating so fast.

I prayed to gaming-gods, apologised for my foolishness, and hoped to get my poor, badly beaten ship to a home base. Any home base.

It took longer than I'd liked, but at last I limped home. And as luck would have it, my closest base was my main one. Moored, into base, sleep and Quit.

I have not managed to reload the game yet. However I am sure, in a little while, I'll load up with enough equipment to build another portal and set sail for Bonemass' island once again.

I hope you enjoyed the read.

This game sometimes forces you into epic, and maybe tragic, adventures.
