The leap to the Source engline was a big advancement in technology and gaming leading Half-Life 2 to beating it's predecessor in terms of graphics, character development and depth, sound quality (except for the all know and great Source sound glitch) and enriched story telling. Starting out the series as just an arcade shooter was fun and all, but you still can't call it just that as even the samllest of things that were put in the game could count as immersion, as you know you had consequences for what you had done, DEATH!!. jk.

The whole continuement of the series in episodic style was a decent decision at Valve instead of just waiting flat out 15 years for the next installment, but only if it were shipped the way it was planned... **ahhmhmhmep3hmhmhm** - With so many breastfed leaks and hints along with speculations everywhere over the years towards the next installement you would wonder what Valve are actually doing in the duration of all that. I wonder what the surprise would be like in the following 3 years. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
