First off I want to start this review by stating that a dear friend of mine gifted me this game. I've always planned on playing the original Downtown Nekketsu Kunio-Kun, but I just never gotten around to do so yet.

Utterly lost and failed potential.

That is what comes to mind when I think of River City Ransom: Underground. A game that plays on people's nostalgia for an old NES game in the worst way possible instead of making it better, and as someone who grew up in this era of gaming I can point out a few things they could had made better. Which I shall.

For example, they could had provided an ingame journal that keeps track of what food item raises what stats and where to buy them and the price so you didn't have to keep a notebook yourself. They could had provided a better way at handling all your character moves, such as deciding yourself what buttons they should be activated on and the likes. For example, once I got Paul's secret move, it almost ruined the character for me as I kept activating it by mistake during my combos.

Max Level is Lv 40 yet there's nothing that indicates this until you realize you aren't gaining any more levels. Much the same goes for stat increases except you won't know this until max level. There's no way to get back your health to full, entering a safe house for example will not give you your life back. Instead you're expected to grind cash and hit the Sauna nonstop until max is achieved. This is just stupid. Even the best food in the game requires you to buy almost a full inventory of it just to gobble midbattle to get your health back. You'd think at the very end, you'd have better options.

Speaking of the end, you better be damn ready for the end because once you trigger it, only ONE kind of enemy will drop money anymore and they won't spawn every time. Sure they drop like 20$ but they're surrounded by a bunch of enemies that won't drop anything and is just annoying to fight. This makes it just better to hit the final area where you'll mostly meet these 20$ enemies, and fight as many as you can before you get defeated ( you can easily make around 400$ before you'll run out of health ), allowing you to keep half of whatever you earned.

I read a review of this game on an external webpage that commented on that the story is basically based on the 1979 movie 'The Warriors', so in preperation for this review I had to sit down and watch that movie, and yeah there's some clear parallels between the two. But that brings up another part that RCRU does badly: The enemies you fight at the start of the game, you'll fight, throughout the entire game with little variation. Even though there's suppose to be these gang-turfs, you fight mostly the same enemies all over the place regarding of turfs. This leads to showing just how little variation there really are.

The Arena mode is completely pointless addition to the game. I don't care that it lets you play as all other gangs in the game, those should had been allowed in story mode, not a seperate mode that's simply not fun to play in at all.

Out of all the characters, Paul the Boxer with the Little Mac ( Punch Out ) skin was the one that fit me the best. I recon that possibly Wes would be a secondary choice with his Muay Thai style. Paul's Boxing style reminded me heavily of the dead-game Zone 4 Fight District. Most other characters are just plain uninteresting.

The Soundtrack was adequate and I must admit to really liking Punch Hungry and Argyle Skulk the most out of them all.

I played the game in Hard difficulty. I had initially tried to jump in on the Hardest but the enemies were so frustrating that I had to go down a tick. The other issue I had with how the AI handled is their pixel perfect precision at dodging you, and it pissed me off like no other. THey would swarm you, and stand just far away enough to avoid all your attacks, or block them right before you'd hit them. Usually causing me to rage and rapidly punch all over the place to break them.

For all these reasons, I cannot recommend this game.
It isn't fun. - It's Average.

Get Streets of Rage 4 instead.

It'd be easier to fly an actual real plane than this attempt at 'realism' . I'll stick with Red Baron 3D for my realism. And for my unrealistic stories and pure enjoyment, Ace Combat 1 and Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere.

I simply do not enjoy this game at all.

I gave it a serious try.
I got 90 days of premium during the summer, and I got a premium plane.
I leveled a pilot to damn near maximum ACE level, and it has no effect. Still can't hit clear shots.

Stay clear from this money-stealing game.
The enjoyment fades very fast, especially in regards to the controls which will always fight you.
Not very realistic flight model nor realistic in realistic mode. If you wanna play it, just play Arcade mode.

At least then you'll have FUN.

PS. Never ever activate any 10-75-150-500% Silver Lion increase things.
If you do, you'll be the first to die, always.

Oh and I almost forgot.
You can never turn of the stupid messages on your screen that tells you to speed up, or slow down. You are forced to read them in the middle of the screen, constantly. Well done idiots.

Writing a review for a game I don't recommend yet experience love and hate for is a very difficult prospect.

At the current time of writing, I've spent too much money on this game than I even care or dare to admit to myself, and I've spent more time on it ( 1275 hours ) than it rightfully deserves and yet I've played the bare minimum of the story, prefering to avoid it entirely. So then, what is it that attracts me to this game? What is it that keeps me playing despite how much I dislike a lot of it's attitudes?

Let's start with what I hate.

I hate how they keep pushing lootboxes constantly. Every new ship is pretty much hidden away behind a lockbox. You don't have to get them is the argument and it is indeed a valid one, but it fails to understand and take into consideration that all those ships are the popular ones that people want to have. Of course I understand that if they had put all ships in the C-Store, the game would most likely not seen the light after 10+ years of being alive.

I hate how there's bugs around that are 8+ years old that still haven't gotten fixed.

I hate how the character creator has only seen removal of features as opposed to improvements.

I hate how limiting customization can be for characters and ships.

I hate how some ships will never get added for a varierty of reasons ( I.e. Aegis from Bridge Crew, Typhoon from Invasion ).

I hate how the game isn't really open world at all.

I hate how the game handles like ships on water like most Trek games do. IT'S SPACE, LET ME ROLL FREELY AND DO LOOPS AND STUFF! I GREW UP ON ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DESCENT II AND FLIGHT SIMS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

I hate that instead of improving the Foundry, they outright removed it because they were too lazy to fix it. No matter of justification you may say, this I will never change my mind about.

I hate how you can't freely pick map for PVP if you just want to goof around, and I hate how it seems more and more like PVP will get removed entirely. I am not that much of a combative competitive person as I used to be, but there are ways to make PVP very fun and fair in this bad mode, it's just a shame it's so limiting in scope. Just, as the Foundry was....

And now, what I love.

It's fun to blow ♥♥♥♥ up.

Numerous of mission rewards that will help you greatly and are absolutely amazing.

Demorecord function is stunning. You can increase the renderscale by a factor of X to take amazing screenshots. The details of ships and projectiles that you'll never really see during action can be seen very closely if you use demorecord function and then play it back. There's at least one person whose made a career out of using the demorecord function.

That, while unremarkable storylines, they do get original, fan and new actors to play roles as various voiced characters. Chris Doohan, the son of James Doohan who played Scotty in TOS, voices Scotty in STO. Vic Magnogna of Star Trek Continues gives his voice to one of the cast as well. The late René Auberjonois returned for Odo before he left us. Everyone's favorite Q returns as well ( John De Lancie ).

To travel through space at warp speeds is enjoyment in on itself.

While I cannot recommend this game because the negatives far outweigh the positives, I leave it up to you to decide. Is this a game you want to try? If so, do it. Boldly go where many others have gone before, and left.

I've played SWTOR on and off every now and then. I actually played way back a bit during a trial even. Made an Imperial Chiss Agent. You can't do that anymore, not unless you pay them, of course.

Frag you, and frag your money-loving ways.

Say what you want with how boring Star Trek Online can get, or how bad the story in Final Fantasy XIV is, or the ghostheat in Mechwarrior Online, at least - AT LEAST none of those games hold your credits hostage and says "Pay us if you want your credits. Pay is in real money. Please pay us for the privilige of everything."

SWTOR is not a good game. It never was. It stole the thunder from SWG, the far superior Star wars game, and all it did was to give us a money-grubbing ♥♥♥♥ of a game that tries to be typical BIoWare ♥♥♥♥♥♥ story telling combined with the worst aspects of World of WarCraft.

There's nothing here worthwhile.
Not in the long run at least.

At least the Bounty Hunter ship is a damn good design.

If all you want is a hub, a character creator designed to create sexualized fantasies, a lackluster stereotypical modern anime story, and high-octane action: This game is for you.

If you want anything else like say open world MMO, exploration and player-interaction and a rich lore; Look elsewhere.

Long are the days since Phantasy Star I - IV.

Though I suppose at least, you can be a robot ( CAST ).

Updated for New Genesis:
It's great fun to run around freely and dodge enemies, climb mountains.
But the world is smaller than Anarchy Online.

It's not worth the time in the end.

Streets of Rage 4 is the long awaited, multiple attempt at restarting, sequel to Streets of Rage 3, which was a sequel to Streets of Rage 2 which was a sequel to Streets of Rage, which was made to compete with Final Fight.

THESE ARE THE INSIGHTS YOU READ MY REVIEWS FOR.

Initially I was extremely skeptical about this. Modern re-imaginings or remakes or sequels never seem to pan out. It's always talk about passion but it always bottoms down into greed. But both me and my friend would follow this project over it's development - my friend more so than me as he grew up with SoR2, he was actually the one who showed me this series is one of the best beat ´em ups ever made and definitely top tier - and then it was released.

I have to say, it exceeded my expectations. While initially I didn't take to the music that well, once it started doing it's own thing I got fully immersed into it. Even songs I don't like that much, have so much awesome to them. Personal favorites include all final boss themes, the Elevator theme, and the Police Station theme. That one is rated SAX for SAXUAL CONTENT! DAMN IT'S GOOD!

Just the fact that even the legendary Yuzo Koshiro made music in this game is amazing.

My biggest criticism of this game is centered around the unlockable characters. Why not redesign them as well, or give us the option to use a redesigned skin? I can't fault them too much for this but I was really annoyed that Max was limited to his SOR2 appearance even though he has a SOR4 look. Same with Shiva. Luckily, people have already figured out modding for that and it brings just, joy, to use the SoR4 Shiva-look instead.

Second criticism is that I think it'd been pretty fantastic if we had the option to play as anything just for the amusement. Everyone I've ever heard talk about this game, everyone loves the boss Estel Aguirre for example and many expressed disappointment that she's not playable.

I'm still working towards 100% this game but yeah, I can't say I'm very objective about this.
I love this game. They did good.

Deus Ex: The Fall is the continuation of the novel Deus Ex: Icarus Effect. Aside from the characters and the plot, the one thing they have in common - along with the rest of Square Deus Ex timeline - is that you can rip Deus Ex from the title because none of them have anything fitting in the Deus Ex universe. They'd fit just fine as stand-alones.

First, Icarus Effect, then The Fall, then Human Revolution, and Mankind Divided.
Remove Deus Ex and they fit perfectly. What I am trying to say here is that they're all bad. Competent games, mediocre lackluster-cyberpunk plot in a future that's very yellow.

The Fall is a most competent game, it's slightly ever so hampered by being originally for tablet devices as opposed to straight up PC. The ability to keep going with NG+ makes subsequent playthroughs for achievement hunting a breeze. It's not a hard game by any stretch of the imagination and the story is plausible silly and uninteresting.

It is unfortunate that you play as Ben Saxon, a man as uninteresting as he is a copy cat, as opposed to the best girl in all of Square-Deus Ex games, Anna Kelso. She's relegated to staying at home. Which makes it baffling that every single ladies bathroom in this game are the ones that have ventilation shafts and never the mens...

If you're dying to know more of Ben Saxon, get this game. It's competent and enjoyable.
Adam Jensen aficionados, look elsewhere.
And you Denton's.... What a shame.

From the creators of "Give us money", comes now.. "Give us more money, harder!"

Star Trek Timelines used to be known under a different name before. Whatever that change was legal or due to overwhelming negative feedback over it's monetization options so a name change was the attempt to wipe the slate clean, I cannot say. But what I can say is that this is the bare minimum to qualify as a game.

John de Lancie as Q is always a joy to hear and the basic premise on display here is good enough to warrant it's usage in any pen n' paper situation for the dedicated Q out there around the Star Trek Adventures settings or FASA Star Trek, and the models used in Star Trek Timelines are very pretty indeed.

I cannot recommend Star Trek Timelines as a game. It's rampart "Give us your money" and just plain boring gameplay leaves much to be desired, but I can say this:

- Keep it running for at least two hours if you aren't interested in the game.
Then you can snag whatever emoticon and background you want.
WorfRage and Redshirt along with LLAP are fantastic emotes!

I wanted to like this game. I really did.
I love the open seas, I love yarr pyrates.

But I can't love this game because it keeps telling me I should pay for so much things, and it's a shame.
