It tells the story it wants to tell and is then done with it. Nothing more. Nothing less.

The Fall Part 2: Unbound significantly improved compared to The Fall

I had a great time over the weekend and finished the game in two sessions and a total playtime of about 10 hours. I must have missed a lot, though; based on the number of achievements that are still locked. Another playthrough in a couple of weeks will be in order, possibly raising the playtime to well over 20 hours. For comparison: the first part took me about 4 hours to complete.

Unbound improved in many other aspects, as well.

The controls using a XBOX controller still feel a bit clumsy at times but are much more receptive and reliable in general. Ranged combat is a bit awkward because of its not exactly ideal targeting system, which causes unnecessary hecticness. The simplistic close combat however left me with a feeling of satisfaction after each encounter.

Puzzles are still challenging enough to give a sense of accomplishment. However, there also are still situations that caused me to just try anything with everything in order to make progress. This happened predominantly during the later stages of the game, when you're controlling four characters in four different environments. I still could never blame anyone else but myself for my lack of progress. This was different in the prequel, where I could blame the game for improper communication and design mistakes regarding the environment.

The game looks and sounds great! The higher fidelity is probably the biggest improved compared to the prequel.

There were some awkward moments when the animation system failed. The game also became unresponsive a couple of times, forcing me to restart it. The game automatically saves often, though, which mitigates the problem. In general, it feels much more stable than The Fall.

I should maybe also talk about the narration and characters. But I won't. Play the game!
