Is Overwatch 2 a good game? Yes, there is a good game in here. I wouldn't have 300+ hours in OW2 if it wasn't.
Was Overwatch 1 a better game? 100% without a doubt, yes.

So let's break it down.
The good stuff
Nice maps. I can't fault (most of) them, they play well. Some of them are among the best multiplayer maps out there. The addition of environment variance (in OW2) helps mix it up. Eichenwald in the rain and fog (chef kiss).
A nice combination of modes, point capture, payload push, king of the hill, 1v1 PvP and now a moving multiple point capture.
A great arcade with interesting community made modes (hide n seek notably became an official in a recent patch).
Great Hero's with amazing talented designers who make them and voice actors who bring them to life.

The bad stuff
The free to play model. Why is that bad and how has it negatively impacted OW? Read on.
The battlepass. In a way it's cool that you can see what you will unlock if you play the game for a season instead of randomly getting stuff through loot boxes. However with the loot boxes at least you had a chance to unlock super nice Epic skins. Now you can only get them (or the new Mythic tier) if you pay to get them.
Cosmetic shop, as I said the designs are cool however £20 for a skin???? I could get another game for that! (and enjoy it more).
Events, there seems to be an event for everything at the minute. Play X number of games and get this name plates or name cards. It just feels a little insulting.
Overwatch 1, a lot of us paid for that game and we loved it. Yet now we can't play it, we've been forced into OW2 and it's new predatory monetary model.

On the fence
5v5 vs 6v6. In some ways I like 5v5, it helps consolidate team fights and gives a much harsher impact to the ones that split off. However 6v6 allowed for that and made team engagement more tactical rather than a series of single fights.
Role Queue vs Open Queue. At first I was a little against role queue, however I do enjoy queuing for a role. Maybe a half way mid-point would be good. Like a 'Hey I want to play support, but can flex into other roles if needed', instead of being locked into the single role for the whole match.
Competitive. Honestly I don't touch it that often, it's more of a thing I do rather than play the game for. There is no real incentive anymore (I have the golden weapons I want (a platinum tier would get me back to comp). Like CS:GO, I play for competitive and only really use casual to 'warm up'.

Do I enjoy OW2, yes. Would I recommend it now, NO! Honestly this game feels like it is more and more becoming a smash and grab of peoples money. Bringing it to Steam only confirms that.

How do you write a prequel to a much beloved game... this is how!
However, there maybe... well.... 'unforeseen consequences'.
