The best of 90s Squaresoft RPGs reimagined with modern quality of life improvements and nigh-perfect pacing.

This game rules. Fantastic music, art, and battle systems. Can't wait to see what the developer does next.

It took a few hours to grasp how they want you to play it, and even longer to master, but this is a phenomenal game.

If you're used to Dark Souls, the biggest advice I can give you is to trust your block with normal attacks. I did not at first and hit a frustrating wall. Trust your block.

Really wanted a double-jump assist. The platforming became too esoteric once I hit the main city.

This game is such a beautiful, polished amalgam of the best platformers mixed with the exploration of Symphony of the Night that I can't believe I didn't play until now.
  • Absolutely incredible artwork. This game has the most art and it's all wonderful.
  • The movement feels so good. It's fluid, responsive. It never feels like the game's fault when you fail a platforming section. Mightily impressive.
  • Exploring the world becomes joyously quick.
  • The story is simple, but very well told.

Great characterization, great story-telling. Combat is good, not great. But really you're coming to this game for the world they've created, and it is an amazing one.

This game plays really well for an open world game, but this is not a Metal Gear game. Cassette tapes are a bore, and any sign of Kojima-level insanity is incredibly scant.

It's a good game, but as the last Kojima Metal Gear it's a huge let down.

This is a classic game of "easy to play, difficult to master." In teamwork, the last point is readily apparent.

Getting aerial goals feels so good.

I started out bewildered; "No hotkeys in tooltips? How can I become pro? How can I construct the North Pole I've always dreamed of? Where are the disasters!?"

Wanting to completely map out streets in the region, I quickly learned that the early economy is deliberately limiting. I went into debt, and couldn't dig myself out. The bank wouldn't talk to me until I had more residents. Restart.

This time will be different. This time I'll build a little slower. Wait a minute, you need more power already? But the income is negative and I have no money for that! Why are you people so needy? Restart.

The third attempt, I found myself myself making concessions and compromises with the meager people that choose to inhabit my land. I built super conservatively: no roads that weren't zoned, no housing too far away from the river. Pipes and power lines went directly to buildings, ruining my thoughtful master plan.

At some point, I got it. The weekly income was in the green, buildings were going up all over town; everything zen. When I reached this level, time went by really fast. When I checked the time, what had felt like 20 minutes, turned out to be 3 hours.

I haven't even hit 10,000 people yet.
