Even with it's successor out CK2 has the advantage of years of DLC and mods to keep it in competition.
As for the game itself- it's a breeding simulator, a game in which you try to impregnate everyone, or anything you want it to be, it depends on your imagination. Also it's the easiest Paradox game to get into imo.
