As someone returning to flight sim since F18 on my Amiga (1990's ftw), this is nothing short of amazing.
The mechanics of the basic flying I did before carry over to this no problem, but there so much more now. So many buttons to fiddle with :)

The downside it's still buggy. If I make a custom route with several added waypoints it freezes and or crashes after the first 100miles. Also there no crash reporting tool so MS aren't getting info of these bugs (afaik) :(

But, it's still new, so hopefully MS will iron out all the issues as time goes on.
All in all a great purchase and I keep going back to it to chill out after a couple hours of FPS :)

I haven't played the predecessors, but as the first one I played, I really really liked it.

Choose to go as slow and surgical as you like, all out warfare or anything in between. The kind of game that you can savour and in the end I wished there was more and more maps to play.

Hopefully they'll make another as this was a great one.

Some of the participation award generation criticised the game saying the save points were too far apart. This isn't a "respawn at the last location" type of game, but the game doesn't respawn the enemy you already killed, so it's easy to get back to where you were.

Early Access Review
To sum it up - it's the PUBG version of COD4. It fits somewhere in the middle
Well put together for pre-release. The game is easy at first then increasingly difficult as you loot faster and push harder into battles.

The bad:
Lowish FPS while the game is still being optimised, but it'll come.
Some hotkey combos don't work so something like combining meds on a single key don't work (e.g. "shift+V" = just "V")
Some of the sound isn't quite accurate so people aren't always where you think they are.

The good:
If you pick up loot and it fits a gun *boom* it's already on there.
Accidentally pick up another gun *boom* all the old attachments are automatically transfererd to the new gun.
2 scopes on each gun, so useful
Ability to swap out your pistol slot with another gun.
Autoload a gun on pickup or switch to it.
Having gear to speed up travel aroung the map is so useful. No more trudging for 5 minutes to get to the next compound.

After an hour of playing this I had a game of PUBG.
Holy balls, I missed all the stuff in my "The Good" list so much.

I preordered this and really wanted to like it, but within an hour of gameplay I killed it and asked for a refund.
Graphics are lush and the concept great, but the story characters are boring, the menu is unintuative (e.g. I had to Alt-F4 to get out of the game) and I found the gameplay slow with odd car charactersistics.

Overall I didn't find it worth the [pre-order] cost, so I got my £50 back and will spend it elsewhere.
Might be worth it to you picking it up in a sale, but I'd had enough after just that one hour.

PUBG is like a girl with a baywatch body but the personality of a car crash.
Can be really good fun to play with, but in the end, not the nicest of experiences.

The bad.
The game can be jerky AF. Not nearly as bad as it used to be, but it's sometimes unplayable.
D-sync can still be a problem. Especially at a busy drop.
I've only had a few issues with cheaters. Not often enough to be annoying. Could be fixed with different(/better) anti-cheat software rather than region locking a country. Besides, a VPS would get around the region lock.
The Random Map slection is a pain in the butt. Sometime you reaaally want to play one map so have to bounce back into the lobby a few times before it comes up.

The good.
It can be really addictive.
Gameplay is plenty fast with the right settings.
It's improved a lot in the last 6 months.
It's quieter in the right places. Vehicles used to be so loud
No longer any rain or fog maps. I miss the fog one for variety, but the rain map was deafening, so glad it's gone.
Gameplay is still as fun

Hopefully they'll keep on tweaking and optimising it and work with a decent anti-cheat program to even up the playing fields. I sometimes jump into CSGO at the end of a night or wind down sniping a couple of critters in Call of the Wild and holy balls they're so smooth in comparison and things you aim at actually register a hit! (damn you d-sync).
