Update: 4/29/2020

Game is working great. Whatever issues existed in the past are long gone. No failures, no update problems, it just works and works well. In fact, ESO turns out to be a pretty amazing game. It's easy to lose hours and hours playing this very deep and packed game!

Original review:

Finally got around to starting ESO only to find it plagued with patching and updater problems. Spent the better part of a day troubleshooting, trying workarounds, and reading the volumes of forum posts about patch problems. Still not sure where the ultimate problem lies but customers at two U.S. ISPs, (that I've seen) are unable to install patches, update ESO, or play their game. The developer points the finger at the ISPs. The ISPs point the finger at the developer. It's just a bad situation all around at the moment.

The only known workaround for customers of the two ISPs involved is to use a VPN to update ESO. After that, the game plays fine. So, be prepared for updater/patch problems. Again, this only appears to involve two U.S. ISPs so your game might be a-ok.

Check the ESO forums for details. There are quite a few threads about updater/patch problems.

Wish I could comment on the game itself but after the hoops I had to jump through just to get ESO updated, I'm tired. This has been a hassle all around.
