"Bad" implies that Deadly Premonition's success is born out of its' faillings, but all of those successes were the point of the game. There originally was going to be a greater focus on stealth but the devs were told that Americans wouldn't buy it unless there was a gun, so that's where all the boring combat came from.
It's good because it's good, not because it's bad. The bad and good in that game are completely separate.
...As far as Into the Dark goes, though, this looks pretty dumb, yeah.

both also did look like "so bad it is good" games
