This game properly simulates the life and times of an Uncle Mike's cloth holster buyer, who while was too poor to spend the extra 5 dollars on a Kydex holster from Amazon, also had enough money to get charged 25 dollars for said holster(MSRP: $19.99 USD) from the same gun shop he bought his Glock 40 Problem Solver that he paid tree fitty for.(MSRP: $199.99 USD). The life of such a creature is either very short or very cautious. Short, not because of the Killdrones he fights on his way to pick up some milk from the store, but from negligently discharging his handgun into his thigh multiple times because he had his finger on the trigger or the trigger simply caught on the cheap material that his holster is made of. Conversely, a cautious user can see a long and healthy life, free from any harm aside from that brought on by the Killdrones, as well as his hair trigger sprinting. Unfortunately, he forever lives with his awful choices, as is the punishment for skimping out on a holster just before the Mindkill. I rate it 10/however many times I accidentally blew my guts out because I forgot I wasn't using a revolver. Would play again.

Alright, just in case you guys weren't aware, if you played this game at ANY point and built up an FOB, you'll find yourself with a ton of GMP over time. Stopped playing for 2 years and returned, only to find out that my FOB on the old savefile ended up making me like 11 million GMP and tons of resources.
With that out of the way, I CANNOT see this as an MGS game so much as a "Mercenary Army Man" simulator with incomplete elements from MGS sprinkled in. That said, the gameplay makes it into a FUN Mercenary Army Man simulator. There is no end to the amount of shenanigans you can get up to clearing bases silently while taking their best dudes as your own. The gunplay is absolutely fantastic, as is the weapon customization system(retro tacticool is best tacticool, I challenge all dissenters to a boxing match). Kojima did a great job with making you FEEL like a proper mercenary as seen from a 1980's Soldier of Fortune magazine. Only trouble is though, if you end up shooting it out with rival mercs or pinko red bastages, the game basically says "you're not supposed to do that, but we can't stop you", You also miss out on nice bonuses when you're mowing down S+ everything guys by the truckload, as fun as that is.
Personally, if this rendition of the MGS series were to continue as a standalone game focused on the mercenary stuff, I would be beyond happy. Only things I'd really do are 3 things: make it feel like less of a punishment to get into fights, expand on character customization to include different outfits and gear, and finally, expand the buddy system so you can effectively control a squad. Unfortunately, it's become obvious that you cannot trust Konami to do ANYTHING right, and as sad as I am to say it, I hope this sleeping dog gets left to lie.

I played this game for the first time in a while. Joined as a German SL and got a "most gas kills" award first round.
