Game is a tad slow and has a few bugs, but it's super early on and a lot of my problems have already been stated to have fixes coming. The animations are cute and have a lot of personality. I'm optimistic about the game going forward, it's a bit rough right now but I expect it to get better over time.

Personally haven't had a single one of the performance issues people have been listing. I've been having fun, so I personally would say it's good, others experiences may vary, but oh well.

Edit: The localization is pretty terrible and a lot of the time the words on the screen have almost no relation to what the character actually said (in JP). It's not even for seemingly any reason either, the subtitle will just be completely wrong and it's really disorienting hearing the character say one thing but the text on screen not matching at all. I'd like it if I could have a set of subtitles that match whichever Voice Over I'm using.

At this point, a Sony takeover is the only hope for this game. Maybe you wouldn't miss projected revenue by 45% if you didn't actively drive away your own playerbase.

Game was fun enough, the way most of the magic types function are all different enough to have different uses though some of them reach a point during the game where there's little reason to use the others. The leveling doesn't really feel important, you can't really go for different builds, but it's there. Most of the enemies are rather forgettable but the bosses standout and some of them were genuinely fun while some were misses. It'd be fun to be able to just fight the bosses, but the Boss Rush mode is somehow not what you'd want if that's what you're looking for.

Advanced Mode and Boss Rush aren't even REMOTELY similar in terms of difficulty. Boss feels more like It's 2 difficulty levels higher than Advanced, which is the only difficulty other than Easy.
Your level is fixed so you can't gain any stats, you have to buy all your magic upgrades, which are kind of expensive, and the only way to get currency other than killing a boss (which you can only do once because you can't rechallenge ones you beat) is performing parries, casts in under 1 second, and casting in melee range, and those only give like, 3 souls per, when the first tier of certain spells have costs in the 90's. The bosses have WAY more health, are faster, hit harder, have changes to their timing, and have new moves. Some bosses are vastly harder than others, and it's not a steady increase in difficulty. It honestly feels like it was made by an entirely different group of people with wildly different design philosophies.

Overall though I would recommend the game as something to binge through, a playthrough I'd say should be roughly between 8-11 hours in total depending on if you get stuck on a boss or not, the game (aside from boss rush) is pretty fair in its difficulty, and playing around with the different types of magic was fun. Also the bear kigurumi is the best outfit other than the default, fight me.

I'm not really concise when it comes to reviews but I feel like I enjoyed the game enough that I want to add my own.

The thing that made me initially want to buy the game was the aesthetic of the game. I like that the main character isn't the one actually doing the fighting (at least physically). It's very much how I wish summoner styled classes and characters played in other games.

I'm a fan of world settings where it's after some catastrophic event and the world your exploring is one that's either on it's last legs or has already fallen. There's a kind of "peace" I feel as I progress and read all the lore items I pick up and piece together what happened. It's one of my favorite parts of games like Dark Souls. I've long grown tired of being bombarded with quest after quest and cutscene after cutscene. This game has cutscenes but there aren't a ton of them, their usage makes sense and is usually reserved for things like after a boss.

This games soundtrack really helps set the tone of it's areas. Sometimes I'd find myself stop moving through the level just to sit there for a minute and listen, and even going back to certain areas later not because I needed to backtrack there to get something but just because I was in the mood to hear the music.

I'd say that combat is overall pretty good. You have 6 slots for your different attacks, 2 sets of 3. You can either hold a button to swap between the first and 2nd set, or you can have it be a toggle. My only complaint about this is that if you have a skill that has one of the spirits passively attack with you on one set, and you switch sets to use a skill briefly and switch back it unsummons the passive spirit but that's not a huge deal. You don't have a guard in this game, but there are two different spirits that function as parries that have follow up attacks, and you get an upgrade later that gives you another parry that isn't tied to a spirit. The dodge in this game does get an upgrade later on but the default dodge is suprisingly good, you can reliably use it to i-frame through attacks and to go through enemies to get behind them.

The exploration is pretty good, obviously since it's a metroidvania it has backtracking as you get new movement abilities and stuff, but I didn't really find it to be that bad because of the map. When every collectible is picked up in an area, that area turns yellow on the map, when there's still stuff to collect it's blue. You unlock fast travel between rest areas pretty early on, so if you need to back track it's generally not an ordeal.

Character progression was fairly straightforward to the point I didn't really have to think about it that much. I never really had any points where I felt like I had to grind or farm, it always felt like I could just try a different set of spirits of put on different relics whenever I had trouble fighting a boss. You can ignore your level for the whole game, it's not very important since it's just stat increases, all the important choices come down to your relics. Relics work on a "cost" system where relics use up anywhere between 0 to 4 "cost". As you explore you'll find items that gives you +1 to your total cost. Items with stronger effects generally cost more. You can put on multiple relics of the same effect as long as you have enough cost, so you don't really have cases of one just being simply better.

My only real complaints for the game are two things, one of which isn't exclusive to it.
I absolutely hate "contact damage" in games. The enemy walking into me shouldn't do basically the same damage as one of it's attacks. When contact damage exists, I stop seeing enemies as a living thing in the world but as a walking hurtbox. It's something that incentivises "safe" play styles. If you play aggressive and with mostly melee, you'll find a lot of times where you get hit not because of an attack, but the enemy bumping into you, sometimes it'll be because you dodged an attack, but because of the attack their body is now ontop of you so the instant your dodge ends you get contact damage.

The other thing which is that a there's like, 3 areas where to reach certain things you need to use specific spirits. Normally in a metroidvania this wouldn't be an issue, but in this game, for about 90% of it, every time you hit a point where you can't get somewhere, it's because you need to kill a main boss and get a new movement tool from it. The reason this is an issue is because up until this point, every movement you've gotten as an upgrade has been passive, you always have it regardless of what spirits you're using, and these last 3 areas, you need at least 1 of 2 spirits you get near the end of the game. The problem is that because of how it was handled earlier, it's reasonable to just think you needed to go kill another main boss, but these 2 spirits are sidebosses that are entirely skippable, and you can be in a situation where you've already killed the final boss and haven't even seen these 2. If you didn't have 90% of the game need these 2 spirits for their slight movement, why not just have made it 100% and just have them be optional movement tools, rather than have stuff that literally isn't doable without them?

I have no idea how to do proper formatting on steam so to anyone that actually read all of this, sorry about that and sorry for rambling. Overall, I had a really fun time with the game, other than two gripes, and the only things I could really ask for are obviously "more", and to be able to play the game again blind. The price for the game is pretty fair for how solid of an experience it was, and even more so if you get it on sale. I didn't mention this early because I didn't think of it, but I don't think I encountered a single bug, which is a little surprising these days.

I can't think of a better game to come out in recent years. Being able to start the game and just go as the wind takes you is a great feeling. In most scenarios I wasn't blocked off of going somewhere just because of being story locked, I could find someway to go where I wanted to explore.
Most open world games have this habit where the world is big, but for all that vastness it's simply empty. Elden Ring did not have this issue, as I kept exploring I'd just keep finding new things, an Ash of War here, a Dungeon there, sometimes just stumbling upon a dragon or something. I was able to just aimlessly wander around, and not feel like I was wasting my time.
It's not perfect, it has it's issues performance and balance wise, though in comparison to most games in the past decade it's phenomenal.

Also I only have 8gb RAM and a GTX 970 and the game ran fine if I didn't have chrome tabs open.

PSO2 and NGS should be separate games, because base PSO2 was great but NGS has honestly been the most underwhelming thing ever. I've pretty much dropped the game, NA and JP, I just have zero interest to waste so much space on my computer or waste my time in NGS on NA or JP.

This game doesn't run that well and you can't dual wield rockets launchers and shoot kirito in the face with them point blank so it is directly inferior to Fatal Bullet.

In all seriousness though this is probably the worst optimized game I have ever played, and I wish that was exaggeration. If you don't have the money to risk buying a game that you won't enjoy, you should stay far away from this game for now.

I could only recommend this game on an 80% sale or higher, also assuming you aren't annoyed by poor performance on a game.

If you somewhat like how the combat plays I'd recommend you check out dragons dogma because it has a similar layout to how skills are assigned but the combat is just LEAGUES better, and that game is running close to ANCIENT in terms of how fast games are progressing.
