Uses some very old character designs; most of the generic classes hold to their designs from past games which are often more than 15 years old. It is hard to get excited about making a Valkyrie with a sword for the 8th Disgaea game.

Level designs are uninspiring. I'm finally getting some good ones in chapter 6, but the game pales in comparison to earlier installments and does not exploit its flexible geopanel and throwing systems.

There is once more a pile of systems that end up less interesting than what Disgaea 4 or 5 have on offer. Magichange is gone. Character ranks have gotten simplified to the point that they are finally superfluous - I personally won't miss them. Levelling items has changed again in a fashion that seems interesting but ultimately won't fix the issues it introduces in postgame, i.e. that everything concentrates on a single powerful character with expensive equipment.

The plot is competent even if the script has some weak moments. The format resembles an audio drama, having reduced the visual component to a minimum.

Graphics ultimately don't look that good. Characters are fine, but every battle skill will bring its own scene and stage which take you out of the action and the context. It makes it difficult to know which of your units are getting attacked during the enemy phase.

almost as bad as 6, same lazy art style, the protags are flat out boring because of bad writing and over all just the same game as 6 just with less gimmics. the only saving grace of this game is the theme of the first neither world being fallen bushido, and even that didn't do much to keep my interest. 0.4 hours into this game and the problems with it are as glaring as an hour into 6. it's not hard to make a great disgaea game, the first 5 prove that. maybe its brand fatigue but it's just not worth more than 5 bucks for the experiance.
