I watched someone play a bit of Cat Quest and I thought to myself "would the novelty wear off and the cat-jokes fall flat after a while?". I decided to give it a try as a couch-relaxing game, and I loved it.

While the cat/purr/mew/paw jokes are repeated over and over again (maybe a bit too much, but as some say "so bad it's actually good") they actually help keeping the tone and atmosphere where it should be, never taking itself too seriously. It is a game, after all, and we already have plenty of "serious" games.

The gameplay felt fantastic and quite responsive, even though I played it from the couch with a steam controller while streaming the game off another PC. You can also tell the game is also pretty well crafted and balanced, with a touch of "dark souls" difficulty: the quest level is a mere indication, not a necessity, and while significantly harder nothing stops you from doing quests or engaging monsters 50-150 levels higher than you. For example I did one of the toughest side quests (level 99) around level 55-60. It proved VERY challenging, but significantly fun and engaging (and also rewarding, mind you).

While not an extremely long game, if you're just looking for something to play over a weekend, from the comfort of a couch, this game is terrific. The devs also hinted to possible future expansions, and given the fun I had with this game, I'll definitely look forward to it.

TL;DR: highly recommended.

This review comes late, just as late I was in buying it. Having played Watch Dogs and quite hating it, I didn't really thought WD2 could be any better. After trying it out on someone else's box, I found myself really into it, with story and gadgets much more on the hacker/reverse engineer side than the Rambo-commando Forgetful Pierce WD. I played mainly the story mode, and I liked it so much that I decided to stop, buy the game, import the saves and continue from there.

On top of the good campaign and side missions, there are a lot of fun activities, well thought, well varied and small numbered: you will find only 6 races for each type, but this allows a lot of difference and fresh fun, I honestly love it. There are also a lot of other activities, like the collection-like ScoutX, in which you have to picture various locations or people around the city.

This game puts fun ahead of realism, and it's a great thing in my opinion. A lot of other games (à la GTA) really puts the player in often frustrating situations, for the sake of "realism", while WD2 is finely tuned for the fun. A perfect example is a car chase with the cops, sudden turn around, drive into a café, and hide inside the car, and the cops more often than not won't spot you, at least on normal difficulty, have no idea for the higher difficulties.

It has a few bad notes in my book, such as the multiplayer achievements, the hundreds of collectables (as per usual with Ubisoft), but all in all this is the best and well crafted Ubisoft game in quite a while. Definitively better than Watch Dogs, a lot more fun and entertaining, with a world full of lots of non boring, fun, non repetitive activities and gameplay. I highly hope the sequels will follow the same route.

MUST BUY!

PS: inside Watch Dogs 2 you will find a lot – and I mean it, a lot – of hacking reference (Glider/Game of Life found on t-shirts is a prime example), cracking/reverse engineering references, references and nods to various existing hacking groups and their activities… if you are at least half knowledge on the subject, you can play "spot the reference" on top of the game itself.

I got into this game without knowing much of it, considering it aesthetically interesting. Turns out it's a quite well written Visual Novel, without much of a real game mechanic, but quite good nonetheless.

And now, with the Prologues released, it's just perfect.

I could write more about it, but it would spoil all the fun parts. Highly recommended.

The game every rock/metal fan should play. To quote Manowar: “If you're not into metal, you are not my friend”.

That Cry of the Banshee, though…

Although not quite what I initially expected, Blueprint Tycoon has its moments. While not particoularly brilliant in terms of difficulty, gameplay or micromanagement, it is quite fun. On top of managing the production chain, and moving resources across isles, you can also manage productivity of each type of gatherer/factory through a system which closely resembles SpaceChem, albeit simpler. If you don't expect the pinnacle of city building/micromanagement, it is quite enjoyable.

As soon as I played the demo, years ago, I knew I had to buy it, and so I did.

Even though I do not know why exactly I waited years to play it, I found this game to be absolutely brilliant, fullfilling all fun and sarcasm present in the demo, and delivering it in spades. There are so many single moments in this game I bloody loved, but I won't spoil it for you. If you're concerned about the graphics (it's still a 2004 game), you should absolutely look past the aesthetics and do yourself a favour playing this. You won't regret it.

It even comes with the original 3 games, developed for Apple II. Absolutely amazing.

I wanted to love this game, I really did, but by the end of it (or shall I say the end of one path) I utterly hated it.

The game is surely pretty and quite funny at times, so much so that you'd like to explore more of it and its world, except for the fact that you can't and you shouldn't. You see, most of the cases rely on a clock, that ticks after each place you visit. Either you do things as fast as you can, in a correct manner, skipping very interesting places in the process, or you're stuck and out of luck. Eventually you'll come across a case that requires a piece of evidence that the game didn't let you grab, and instead of just going for the "we have nothing to show for it" à la Ace Attorney, you can only fail intentionally 3 times because the frickin' inventory screen won't go away, further aggravating your rage.

Important/interesting key objects that get in your inventory and that might be used in later stages, actually don't get used at all and are simply discarded, with characters pretending to have never seen such a thing.

To top it off, there is no "quick skip" dialogue if you want to just mow over dialogues you already read several times and stopping it on "new dialogues" only.

Hell, there isn't even a way to save right where you are. I mistakenly took the "Save & Quit" option in the menu as actually save and quit, only to find out that upon reload all the dialogues were reset, and basically I had to redo most of the stuff I went through, because there are no in-between save states.

So, to sum it all up:
  • you can't properly save and load if your life depended on it;
  • you can't explore because you're on a clock;
  • you cannot skip dialogues that you have to mandatorily read multiple times if you want to experience all the endings;
  • since clock often ticks when you visit a place, if you want to actually go back to some place you already visited, the additional visit also takes time off the clock… god forbid you willingly go to a place where it turns out there was nothing helpful…

No, this game has failed me completely, ruining the experiences I like the most in games of this genre. The fact they made it possible for players to be hindered by their will to explore more of the game, is an unforgivable sin.

This is possibly my favourite puzzle game ever. It's not well balanced, so you might find very hard puzzles followed by easier ones, but it really is fantastic. Instead of a linear difficulty level you have more like a "ups and downs" sort of difficulty pattern.

If you're afraid of Chemistry don't be, because it's all fictional.

A must buy for everyone.

If you have friends to play with, this game is fantastic. And if you don't there's still online play.

The maps are somewhat limited, and most of the user created aren't particoularly brilliant, but the game is tons of fun and I would highly recommend it.

Circuits is an ok game. Not good, not great, just ok. Being a musician with a good ear it can get tedious fast, the equivalent of fitting different shapes into shaped holes. Still the game has its merits and it works fine.

Other than that, the game is a bit short, but I've read they're working on that with a composer that theorically should expand the game through workshop or some sort.

If you're a musician you might find this a bit dull, still you might want this in your collection.
