The devs were quick to release hotfixes to get this into a playable state. As of 3 business days after release the game is back into a playable state and it is very rewarding. If you are still having issues with the DLC, try uninstalling and then deleting the entire Grand Tactician folder, then reinstalling. It appears to me that something about the way it installed itself was bugged at first. Anyways, on to the DLC.

I cannot praise this game and the dev team highly enough. To be able to work yourself up from Regimental command to Army Command on the small scale map or Brigade to Amy on the large scale map is a delight. Some of the most fun I've had so far is holding my own as our army loses a battle - something that doesn't happen often in a player-run campaign! The AI's dynamics lead to satisfying campaigns where you hardly fight in the same place twice. My biggest dissatisfaction so far? Having to fight in a small battle in West Virginia while I watched two grand armies duke it out over Fredericksburg in December 1862!

If you are a fan of map games, history, and/or mount and blade campaigning, I highly recommend this DLC. Do not let the mixed reviews deter you, the DLC had a shaky release but is back to where it should be and it lives up to the hype and it was worth the wait.

If you're wondering if the time has finally come to learn how to play Dwarf Fortress, yes.

The base game is a great civil war shooter. Using it in first person is just as viable as third person and there are built in options to turn off the HUD and capture points for a truly immersive Civil War FPS experience. The customization potential is the real selling point of the game. Player made maps have started entering the official server's rotation and in time a very healthy community will spring out of it.

EDIT: The community death spiraled after the Napoleonic mod killed the public servers. What other reviews are saying is true. I can no longer endorse this game.

Awesome management and building game, probably the best on the market. Old dwarf fortress or evil genius fans should love it.
