The learning curve is kinda tough to get over but after you get the hang of it it feels natural. Easiest way to figure out controls is probably with an Xbox controller using one of the context menu control options. (Being able to hold a button and have it give you the options for what said button can do is very intuitive.) This game is truly what you make of it. Set goals -> weigh your options to progress towards your goals -> and go with the option you find most enjoyable. I'm not the first to say it but I probably wont be the last; "Try everything at least once." Fly dangerous CMDR's o7

Just finnished my first playthough. Fantastic game. It does a lot with the few mechanics there are and it does puzzles well. If you're on the fence about trying this game I would encourage you to try it.
