This is specifically for the Steam version. Max Payne is a great game, but this version is absolutely not playable. A whole list of compatibility issues, ranging from the game just not starting properly, to sound issues. The only way to play this version is by downloading and applying multiple fixes from third party sources, and its still no guarantee that the game will function. Managed to fix the startup and sound issues, but could not resolve the Jpeg errors which would always eventually crash the game. I eventually just gave up.
Max Payne is a great game, but I cannot honestly recommend this version.
Be warned. If you do purchase this version, it will not work right after downloading. You have to do some research and apply multiple fixes to even get it to the start screen.

The Jpeg errors are specific to Ryzen series CPU and can be fixed by opening rlmfc.dll in a Hex editor and modifying a few things. Here's the specifics:

1. Open hex editor of unmodified rlmfc.dll
2. Go to offset 0x256ED
3. Replace "83 E0 0F" to "90 90 90"

Theres also a pre-patched dll avaliable for download in a community post called "Jpeg Errors?" which you should be able to find if you search Max Payne Jpeg Error. I'd post a direct link, but steam gets weird about censoring download links sometimes.
