This game did not hook me at all. The dialogues are bland and way too boring (my little brother could do better), the story is non-existent, the fights are boring as well, even when playing with a friend. Also, you have to grind, grind, and grind. Moreover, certain resources and trails appear exactly at the same places every damn time... Dunno, it breaks all the immersion. The graphics are good, but all in all I don't understand what's so awesome about this game.

For some reason, I have a sense of deja vu. This game reminds me of No Man's Sky and all the hype about it. TLDR: I don't understand what people like about Valheim and why there are SO many positive reviews.

Reviewers often mention the following pros:

* Beautiful - I don't understand what's so beautiful about Valheim. Honestly, it's quite ugly and dark (I can't see a ♥♥♥♥ during nights). Also, certain effects kill my eyes and there's a very strange "ground shaking" that happens on a regular basis. I would call Final Fantasy XIII or Witcher 3 beautiful, but certainly not Valheim.
* Has a great combat system - LOL. I remember certain NES and Sega games that had better combat system (for example, Streets of Rage). In Valheim combat is just a joke.
* Allows to explore interesting locations - Valheim has the same issue as No Man's Sky. Basically, if you've traveled around the world for a couple of hours you've seen it all. Points of interests are also not so interesting. It's just plain boring.

Other issues I've noticed:

* Building system is very inconvenient. You can't build a house properly because the ground has different levels. The walls do not attach properly. It's just a mess.
* The RPG system is non-existent. The leveling makes no sense.
* To cut the wood you have to click, click, click and click. Very, very engaging.

To sum up, this game brings absolutely nothing new to the genre and does not seem engaging at all. Do yourself a favor, go play Minecraft or Don't Starve. I've asked for a refund.

UPD: I've re-played LiS and BtS and oh boy... LiS 2 is not even close to those two. The first part was intense, and the plot was sincere. In the second part we get some strange relations and lots of political references which are a) not very interesting for non-American gamers (no offense, but that's true) b) very cliche. I have no idea how they managed to create such a great first game and then come up with such pile of trash.

I really liked the first LiS installement as well as "Before the Storm". These were not perfect but they were very interesting, and that's basically the core feature of any good game. Unfortunately, LiS 2 is way, way worse. I really was forcing myself to finish it, especially during the last two episodes.

While certain moments of LiS 2 are quite good, all in all it just falls flat.

Main problem is that there's no real chemistry between the main characters which was found in LiS 1. Daniel is an annoying ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ brat and I honestly was hoping he would die at some point. He just keeps failing and ruining everything, he does not give a ♥♥♥♥ about his brother. Compare these stupid relations to Max and Chloe. Yes, they had their own issues but, well, in a good way. I mean, even best friends have certain issues from time to time. But in LiS 2 main heroes just piss you off which is usually a bad sign.

There's also no bond, no chemistry between the protagonists and other characters. Thing is, every new episode brings brand new chars, and you won't meet any people from the previous episodes (exceptions are very rare). For example, when we met Brody, I was really hoping he'll be featured in the next episode and we'll continue travelling together, at least for some time. Yeah, as if. You'll never see him again. Or, at the very beginning you meet Shawn's girlfriend which was quite cool. Of course, I thought she was one of the main secondary chars. Pffft, keep dreaming. You'll be able to call her a couple of times, and that's that. I'm not even talking about the protagonists' father.

Same applies to less pleasant characters which effectively means you don't care for anyone. In LiS 1 you got time to know other students and teachers, and this fictional world felt real. This "realism" was quite important even though some interactions seemed a bit bizzare. This also allowed to introduce unexpected story twists (like who's the real maniac). This magic is missing in LiS 2, unfortunately.

The above issue leads to another problem: you don't care about your decisions. For instance, in episode 1 you meet some creepy racist guy and can steal camping equipment from him. Well, problem is you won't ever see this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ again and there won't be any repercussions anyways. Why should you care then? Or, Cpt. Spirit may be hit by a car. Should you care?.. Well, perhaps if you've played Cpt. Spirit's adventures - then yes, at least for a bit. But once again you'll never see this guy again and in any case he'll survive.

Compare it to the Kate's story in LiS 1. You have time to know her better, learn about her family, find out why everyone is bullying her etc. And only then in a different episode you have a chance to save her. You do want to succeed because you have established some relationship with Kate. If you save her, then you'll visit her in the hospital and she'll help you later in the game. If you fail, certain (quite unpleasant) repercussions will follow in the next episodes.

Now, suppose we meet Kate in the 1st episode, barely get to know her, and then after 30 mins she gets on the roof to suicide? Well, probably that whole scene would be far less intense. Especially, if in the next episode no one will actually care whether she lived or died. A similar thing happens when you can steal drug dealer's money with Finn. You barely know this guy, so why do you care what happens to him?..

So, all in all LiS 2 was a big disappointment. Yes, I finished the game but I had no satisfaction. Daniel was pissing me out since the first episode, and then in the final that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ refused to surrender and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ killed me. Applause, you little moron. As a result, he became a bandit. Just great, it was worth going through all the trouble.

This is a big yes :FFIX_Moogle: Reminds of good old times when FF series used to be good. Great plot, great soundtrack, great characters, great gameplay. Of course, the graphics looks dated in 2020 and there's no voice acting but this game was released 20 years ago.

What else can I say? This is a musthave for all JRPG fans. If you are not fond of older games, stay away though.

Three ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ toads have wiped my whole party in two minutes while being only one level above. On classic difficulty, after I spent like 30 mins in game. After checking the other reviews I understood that's a typical problem: you have to guess which part of the current location you have to explore not to get wiped. Thanks but no thanks.
