Pros:

- Max Payne with vampires, that's always going to be cool
- Narration/Voice acting, James especially is very well written and voice acted.
- Presentation, the style is just cool, I just wish it went further and got weirder

Cons:

- Very drawn out. overstays its welcome
- Gets repetitive very quickly
- Gunplay is off, weapon reloads are slow for this type of game as well
- Enemy and level variety. 20 levels in you've basically seen everything, and you still have about 20+ more to go.
- Lack of indicators, either low health or projectiles. Can't count the number of times I died to a lock-on fireball nailing me from off screen.
- Balancing. Beat the game on the intended difficulty and still died quite a bit. Some enemies are a joke and other are just annoyingly god-tier.
- Damage. Sometimes a weapon is a one-shot kill, other times it takes 4 shots to the head. The game can't decide if the weapons want to work or not.

I really wanted to like this game more, but there just isn't a ton here worth spending the duration of the story to see. The gunplay is just okay, and the lack of enemy and weapon variety make the game very redundant.

A sequel where the tighten things up could be promising, but unless you're really desperate for a slightly different Max Payne, then I'd suggest picking this up on sale or skipping it outright.

This game is never going to be finished and runs like total ♥♥♥♥. There are a million other zombie survival games you can play that are actually finished that are far more worth your time and money.

What if Daikatana but it was good?

This game is still disappointing, but it's not as bad as I remember it being. That being said the multiplayer is dead and you have to set up your own server to even play COOP with your friends and it's just not worth the effort.

This game has a cool concept, but is really dragged down by its level design.

I never felt like I was making progress through a level, rather it kind of just feels like you're stumbling from room to room, back to the previous room, just to find a door you manged to miss.

Another big problem with this game is that the colors are so muted across everything that it is very hard to tell what is important, what is an enemy, ect.

Overall I don't think it's a bad game, but I don't think it's great either.

It sucks you have to buy this game as part of a bundle now, just wait for it to go on sale.

I was gifted this game and as much as I wanted to buy it for myself, I would not have bought it on my own, because I do not like EA as publisher and hate what they did to Visceral Games.

That being said, the team at MOTIVE did an incredible job recreating what made Dead Space a great game and improving on it. When I say this game is on par with the Resident Evil 2 Remake, this is not exaggeration in the slightest.

I hope MOTIVE get's the opportunity to remake Dead Space 2 as well, as they whole heartily deserve that as well.

So here's my updated review.

For context I refunded this game back when it came out and only came back to it because I was able to snag it for more than half off.

This game is the most milk toast, mediocre "horror" game that I have honestly ever played.

I can't even say this game is bad, it's competent, but does nothing interesting to keep the player engaged.

The combat is mind-numbingly bland, the story is very predictable, all the characters are one note. The game strives to be a spiritual successor to Dead Space and falls miserably short, and being as bland as possible while doing nothing worth playing this game for.

Save your money, go play the original Dead Space instead, this game suffers the greatest sin in being so bland and unremarkable that it just isn't worth anyone's time.
