It can be hard to spot when something is genuinely made as a passion project, but I'm certain that this game is most certainly one such product. It's hard to say exactly what is the single best feature of the game, so instead I'll try to tell about the many great things this game has going for it.

Great platforming.
- The game is 3D platformer and the control are precise and tight. Platforming is fun, easy and challenging all at once and with many gadgets and additions, it never becomes boring either.

Amazing level design.
- The level design in this game is great, with the levels serving as theme park for exploration. Just when you think you've found it all and done everything, you might find something new if you just look hard enough. The game keeps rewarding those who go out of their way to look and explore, which is certainly refreshing.

Excellent soundtrack.
- The soundtrack is filled with so many great and whimsical tunes that you could listen to it for days. When you don't want to leave the menu because you like the music so much, you know you're in for a treat.

Overall creativity
- Just the sheer scope of creativity that went into this game is staggering to me. The first world isn't anything that special, but by the time you get into world 2 and 3, you're going to be exploring some truly interesting settings. Not only that, some chapters even have unique mechanics, such as stealth and they all work surprisingly well. There is even a genuine horror level in the game.

Humor
- The game is not only blast to play, but also genuinely funny. The at times morbid, even dark humor is an amazing contrast to the cutesy graphics and music. I never imagined that a game like this would make me laugh out loud, let alone multiple times. That alone is an achievement in my books.

Overall, A Hat in Time in very much a love letter for 3D platformers of old, but only that, it's a game that can very much stand on it's own two feet. I wouldn't be surprised if Hat Kid would end up becoming a future gaming icon. If you enjoy platformers, you can't go wrong with this one. You will get your moneys worth, that much is guaranteed.
