So after sinking a few consecutive days in this remastered blast from the past, I can finally sum up the whole experience for You to help with your deciding. Omitting any story spoilers, of course.

Experience
As someone who's never played the original trilogy—though I will be fixing that in the future—nor has never been into platformers for that matter, I came into this game pretty much blind, and to be frank, I did not even have very high expectations. But boy was I in for a surprised. And a ride...
The environments are vivid and aesthetically pleasing, the characters are fun, and story is generally good for what its purpose and intended audience is. Since remember, this game was designed to appeal to audience of all ages, which it does more than well. However means that means older players might have to take some story and character design choices with a grain of salt, since they may appear a bit too silly. But it's nothing experience impacting. The exact opposite I dare to say. If you get into it, and understand the reasons behind it, you will stop being bothered by it, and thus enjoy the game even more.
The game generally benefits from its oldschool simplicity. No need to learn several complex mechanics, build up knowledge about its inner workings, or think up advanced strategies. Just get a grip of few space traversing techniques, and you good to go for anything. You will naturally need to build up some skill at them, which can be frustrating at times, but that is what simply comes with practically any platformer. So it only makes it true to the genre. But this one has a fairly low amount of such passages, so it's still rather relaxing experience. Though that is still dependent of ones ability to get a grip of aforementioned mechanics, so results may wary. Just don't blame your lack of skill on the game please.
Also not to mention that I played throughout all three games on a laptop with just mouse and keyboard, despite it being basically a console port, thus clearly designed to be played using a controller. Although there were parts where it was obvious, and thus playing without one was limiting—especially those skateboarding side-quests—such cases were surprisingly rare, and I even found few parts where I felt like having a keyboard and mouse was actually an advantage. Either way, the game is very enjoyable both with, and without a controller.
And to make a bold statement, I say that this game is worth even the full price. If you like these types of games, or are fan of the franchise, you will be able to get over it. But I still strongly recommend getting it on sale, since then if something goes wrong, you will not be too mad at least.

Performance and Issues
So, many people stated that they had performance issues with game, despite proper hardware. That has never occurred to me. Played on 9th gen i7 paired with RTX 2070—both mobile, because laptop—and with the exception of very few performance heavy locations that had one too many reflective objects going on, the game ran constantly between 110 and 130 FPS, generally close to the 121 FPS mark. Which bring me to another issue.
Framerate locked physics. Many have said that the physics are wonky broken, and sometimes even blocking progression if the framerate is above 60 FPS, thus them having to lock their framerate to even finish the games. That has never happened to me. I maxed out all the games from top to bottom with zero such problems, despite having aforementioned high FPS basically all the time. And since many others seem to be spared of this issue as well, it's most probably a hit-ot-miss thing that's system specific. Only thing I did experience was the progression rollback due to data not syncing with cloud property when playing offline, and then playing online again. It was nothing too serious in my case, but I still recommend making sure to be always connected to the internet, or just turning the cloud saves off. Since as we know Activision, they are never going to fix it. But that is about it. Few bugs and glitches always occur, but if you are at least a bit lucky, your experience should be as smooth as mine.

Is this a game for kids?
Well yes and no. As I've already said above, the game was specifically designed to appeal to anyone, including younger audiences. But despite that, everyone can find theirs here, and you for sure enjoy the heck out of it, without feeling any childish. And if someone tells you that it is childish, just tell them to buzz off, and carry one the enjoyment.
And I would definitively recommend this game to parents who want to their child/children a videogame, but can't decide on something that would be appropriate for them, and what the family would have with. It sure checks that family friendly box well, and I can't but recommend it for such purpose.

TL;DR
It's a great game for what it is supposed to be, and I recommend it for both platformer enjoyers, and casual gamers. It is simple, it is cute, it is nicely looking, and foremostly, it's fun. And that's what games are about after all.
You may run into issues, but it's not very likely, and the general performance is good. Since it's 2024, hardware requirements are not an issue either, due to the hardware it needs not being expensive nowadays.
Just buy it in a decent sale, and enjoy the adventures! Because who wouldn't like a cute little dragon saving the world three times in a row!

I'm just glad that despite Activision got their hands on this masterpiece of a franchise, they did not screw up anything badly, and so this legend can live on.

P.S.: If you dare to even think about making a R34 of this lil purple guy, I will find you. And you don't want that ever happening.
