This feels like being a kid again and mixing all your collectable cards together to make up your own game. The aesthetic makes it feel like games from that era too.

This game is great because we are fundamentally stupid as a species.

I'd like to like this game but it just hurts to play it. The controls are so unintuitive and there are some very irritating bugs and glitches that can render hours of progress useless. Vehicles handle as badly as games from 20 years ago and the physics are feel like they're from that era too. I might give it another go but it won't be anytime soon. I hope it get's some TLC and polish.

Only get this if you want to support the developer. It's only 16 pages of very uninteresting concept art for such an interesting final product. Most of this is present within the game itself in the gallery. Would have been nice if it included some high resolution prints but it must not have crossed their minds to actually put some effort into this DLC.

The soundtrack is more worthwhile addition.

A disappointment when compared to the original but when that game is one of the best games in it's genre, being the worse one isn't too bad. On it's own, it's entirely worth the cost - beautiful locale, interesting creatures in a self contained ecosystem (though a couple of them made absolutely no sense) and great soundtrack. It only really falls behind when compared to the first. The storytelling is also much more blatant and creates weird contradictions to lore that was set up in the first game. No shade on the voice actors though, they do an excellent job with what they've been given but it's clear the story was patched together from disparate ideas without stepping back to see what the whole looks like.

As it stands it's a good game but just make sure you play the original first. If the rumours of a third game are true, I do hope they put some thought into the story and themes and have a good idea to work upon. Otherwise it looks like they're due to flop hard given their current trajectory.

I recommend this game because I had fun with it but not really under any other criteria. If you're looking for a survival crafting game with a terraforming twist, give it a go but the game is far too jank and unpolished to warrant a wholehearted recommendation, The terraforming mechanic, which is the games only USP, is currently on rails, like a movie that you only have a fast forward button for interacting with. The story at this point is an IOU with some placeholders about what you're doing here and the people that came before. There's a general lack of theme and the writing is extremely cliche. The gameplay currently is passable, bordering on frustrating given how much pop-in the terrain does while you're still in it. The jetpack also behaves oddly hugging the terrain at some points but allowing jumping in others - not very consistent.

On the plus side the progression path is extremely satisfying and the concept of having the world respond to your actions is fun but is slightly undercut that the terraforming progression is very linear and not responsive to player action except in the most basic ways.

There's a lot of potential here that I'd like to see developed on but it does need a lot more work before it can be released. Hoping the Devs manage to make it all come together soon. I recommend you play the demo to make up your mind if you think it's worth it or not.

I now have thalassophobia. 10/10 would recommend everyone stay away from the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ocean.
