This game is REALLY difficult to master... but it gets you hooked almost immediately. 😉

As far as story goes, Rift of the NecroDancer takes place after the events of Crypt of the NecroDancer. Cadence, the female protagonist from the previous title, is sucked through a space-time rift to a modern urban town, where she finds that other characters from the last game, including even the NecroDancer, are currently holding jobs and battling monsters that came through the rift with them. All of them wish to return home, but in order to do so, Cadence must fight the monsters to the beat - again.

...And that's where, in my opinion, the most difficult game play ever imagined comes in - as they say in the video game biz, "easy to learn, hard to master". It's a Guitar Hero or Rock Band style rhythm game - if you've ever played those titles, then you should either be really good at it or completely suck at it, of which I am the latter. The twist is that each monster that comes down the "strings" has a different approach, and there are also items and traps that can change the way the game is played. Can't get enough torture of a challenge? There's a remix mode, which randomizes the monsters every time you play! How much do you hate yourself fun is that?! 😨

However, the REAL appeal for me comes with the optional Level Editor, which greatly enhances the game. You can create levels that you can then play yourself using your own music, or even share them on the Workshop for others to try! I plan on sharing some tunes I've made in Rytmik Studio, as well as some songs others made (I will upload copyrighted music very infrequently, as I don't want a C&D on my account; most of my music is usually either based on unlicensed or copyleft licensed music, or are covers/remixes of popular songs of which I would hope the modifications are varied enough to not be issued a DMCA).

Overall, a pretty solid game! Brace Yourself Games really outdid themselves this time!

...Oh, and since guys are probably gonna point out Dove's new design, I'll admit that she looks cute and all, but IMHO her wussy pacifism and overdone perky personality are not suited to my tastes. I'll stick with Cadence. 😉

Okay, now it's a toss-up between Cadence and Nocturna. Admittedly, I prefer playing as Nocturna in CotND, so I figured I might like her in Rift, too. I just didn't know how much... 😏
