Quite unique, very unforgiving and extremely illegal. Vanilla is a very generous, the world is filled with lore and everything is done to let the player build his own story from the ground up. The game can be buggy at times, suffering from it's ambition. Thankfully, the modding community is very passionate and fixes most of the issues you can encounter. The sandbox aspect of the game coupled with very talented modders has brought some very solid projects giving the game a lot of replayability.
You might struggle with your first playthrough but death is part of the learning process. It only ends once your last character dies, slavery opens up new opportunities, you can always bounce back.
My favorite game for a reason, grab it while it's on sales, it's worth every penny.
