This game is so time gated that you’re better off waiting until the end of a release to play the content. You just have to hope the content you want to play isn’t also gated behind daily or weekly rotations. If you want to be invested in the story, make sure to turn off the screen and sound when you log in because Bungie will play a whole story beat that’s meant to be seen after completing the story leading up to that cutscene, giving you zero context on what’s happening. Dodge social media as well since Bungie will spoil story beats five seconds after they’re released there. Also don't get too attached to any characters, even your own custom character - Bungie changes voices for them on a whim. When the game released, each of the 6 possible options for a player character had a unique voice (3 Races, unique voice for each, for both Male and Female). Suddenly and announced, Beyond Light cut 4 of those voices, so now there is only one Male voice and one Female voice. Really messed up the continuity and immersion. Several NPC characters have had their voices changed as well, and except for a single case, all for the worse. For the five competent developers there, I feel sorry for you, having to work with a bunch of “devs” with the experience of a 1 month coding bootcamp from a generic overpriced online class. Not to mention the leadership is probably just AI with how incredibly questionable their decisions have been over the last few years. Destiny 1 is the Destiny game you’ll want if you want to play - Destiny 2 is not worth coming into anymore, it’s a half baked game now (literally, half the game is gone) and labels itself as an MMO, when the only MMO aspects this game has is the horribly impersonal and generic intro quest like every other MMO. Once you finish that, you’ll have no sense of progression since you only have Legendary gear to choose from, because bungie wants all the new players to play with the people that introduced them to the game. The problem with that is, this game is embarrassing so trying to get someone into it is actually a disservice to them. The identity of the game is gone and now it’s just a puddle of “do anything you want, none of it matters.”
