I really dont understand most of the negative reviews. Dont let them influence you too much. This game is on a good path, espescially with the current update.

Normally im not a fan of defending unfinished games, but considering the giant leap the devs are trying to make in comparison to the first game, i think this time its justified. If you decide to buy this game you should know what you are in to however:
Id say, for right now, buy the first game first. Its cheaper, way more polished and actually complete. If you like the gameplay and want to see more (or want to play 4 player coop, instead of 2) plus support the devolpers, buy this one.
Yes, right now the game has many shortcomings. And if you prefer the first one, theres no harm in sticking to it while the second is still in development.
Im still split on most of the changes, but it seems like there is a drawback to most advantages:
I like the bigger maps, but the gameplay is slower.
Im a Fan of the new weapons, but most of them feel less unique.
While i like that the new update made items more viable, there are still no designated item builds like in the first game (beam/Orb/Missile...) Yes, this will make you play different items, but some of them are still way more useful than others and you can now just hold 4 of them.
The overall balancing still seems to be all over the place. Not only the Items, but Weapons, Classes and espescially Class perks are nowhere near being equally good. I like that you can specialize your class, but why even implement it, when some specializations are *waaaaay* stronger than others?
As i said, there is still a lot of work to be done but i already had a lot of fun, and will still have a lot more, espescially in coop.

But for the love of god,
PLS REMOVE THE COLOR FILTER IN THE LOOP, IT CUTS FRAMES IN HALF FOR NO REASON, making it nearly unplayable.
and bring back assasin pls.

Choosing to not recommend an all-time Classic feels wrong, but writing about the games (many) shortcomings in spite of its overall great Reviev-Score will give potential new players the best chance to prepare for what theyre in for. Atleast thats what im hoping for. I Also think that i might be speaking for a lot of people who got frustrated playing this game mainly because it is handled as classic and thus have difficulty expressing valid criticism.

This Game is a great Story and a fantastic parallel to the original short story of Harlan Ellison. In fact, its such a great story that it almost overshadows being a mechanically bad, buggy and way to cryptic game.
While i wouldnt mind that a game like this would be hard, there is no excuse for it being so hard, that its almost impossible to complete without a guide.
Even this would be excusable, but a lot of problems simply stem from poorly thought-out mechanics.
There are a lot of simple examples:
The Game has 8 options to interact with your surroundings: "Walk to", "look at", "take", "use", "talk to", "swallow", "give" and "push". Its often unclear which of these options lead to the outcome you want: Do you have to "Walk to" the Door, or dou you have to "use" the door? Sometimes you can use both, sometimes not. Do you have to "look at", or "use" a monitor? Do you have to "push" or "use" a switch or lever? Nobody, probably not even the developers wouldnt know for sure.
A lot of the options will literally often do the same, with "give to" and "use", "use" and "swolllow" or the aforementioned "walk to" and "use" being prime examples.
There are interactions that are flat out absurd. You can play through the whole game without using "swollow" once. Sometimes things suddenly become interactable after doing something, despite the game telling you that you cant interact with this very thing minutes prior, without any indication why it would be possible now (Im looking at you Fork). Some things suddenly appear in places youve already been at and Good luck finding the invisible shovel...
While the Game gives you the option to combine Items in your inventory, you will have to do so exactly once. So why even implement it? Good luck playing this storyline last, never having to do so and suddenly having to do it without any indication that it is even possible.
While i like the idea of the game giving you hints in the form of riddles via the book, the hints given to you are so inconsistent and cryptic that the game might just aswell give you no hints at all. Variing between "eat the Child" or "Yellow scary", the hints given to you in the book will often not only not bring you any progress but actively lock you out of the good ending.
The "Health" System is completely redundant, some interaction hitboxes are hilariously bad, countless visual and audio bugs, you can easily softlock yourself without the game telling you way more than once and even if you overcome all those difficulties you still have to gamble which decisions wont lock you out of a good ending instantly, which would only be told to you at the very end of the game. - not what decision it was, not what you shold have done instead, just that you screwed up somewehere. Good luck playing trough the entire thing again!

To be honest, playing this game is very exhausting, especially for adventure game standarts. Solving puzzles wont even leave you with a good feeling afterwards most of the time. Atleast for me it was mostly just the thought "How would you even come up with this bs?".
At the End, the storytelling, the universe and the atmosphere really do their best to cover up that this is at its core a bad game not only by modern standards.
I highly recommend reading the original short story however, while contemplating moral implications and metaphors of both the book and the game will be a great although potentially depressing expirience.

Du schuldest mir was.

Loadingscreen simulator 2024.
Great game, even greater moddingcommunity. Unfortunately installing hundreds of Mods will impact your performance ever so slightly to the point where your multiplayer campaign crashes after nearly every loadingscreen.
Actually getting a round to start with friends will be the experience of your life.
Everyone saying this game is hard is coping, its just specifically designed to weed out the weakest of your friendgroup.

For that purpose i especially recommend trying:
- Neurotrauma (including all submods)
> Be ready to study medicine and still die
- Real Sonar
> Be ready to loose your ears, hate the captain and die
- Hazardous Reactors
> Be ready to repeat the "3.6 roentgen" line from HBO's chernobyl series every 5 minutes and die
- Barotraumatic/ Europawar
> Be ready to die by the hands of horrors beyond your comprehension

Do not enter the submarine editor. I built like 8 Subs, which took me atleast 100H. Everyone hated them (they were great). It drains you. I want my life back.

11.5/10 would dirtybomb my foes again.

Update: we are so back. (but only at the bug front, its still joever for Botdivers)

Update 2: we are even backer. (but when do i stop ragdolling for no reason)

Fun game once. Unfortunately fun was too good at killing chargers, so it got nerfed. Changing the flamethrower to be a waterpistol was kinda funny tho. Idea for the next update: remove weapons alltogether. I think they are too effective.
0/10 wouldnt ragdoll again.
Fire everyone in the balance department. I would say that a monkey on copious amounts of crack would do a better job, but maybe thats already the system in place.
I would be more than happy to update my review to a positive one, but my updates work similarly to arrowheads: while trying to improve something, it will just get even worse.

The Review-Ratio definitley doesnt tell the whole story here.

Since my Review ended up pretty long, because this game managed to frustrate me again while writing, and most people nowdays have ADHD, ill put my conclusion right here:

The Game is overall mid at best, which is why i cant recommend it. Especially not for 30 Bucks.
Its overall a great concept and a solid platformer. But thats it, a Concept.
I wouldnt even wait for a sale, i would hope for Ghostrunner 2 just being a better game.
If you are a diehard fan of the cyberpunk genre, and like fast pace games however - i would still recommend other games in the first place - but feel free to buy when its on sale. Its simply not worth full price.

For anyone wondering specifically why, here is a somewhat sophisticated review.

It took me under 8 Hours to play through the whole main story once, even with retrying most of the levels to improve, or to get most of the collectibles. 8 Hours, for 30 Bucks. Looking back at most other games on my Account, this has to be one of the worst "Hours of Fun/Dollar-ratios" i have ever had, without even considering that most of this game was not "fun" per se, but trial and error in an repetitive leveldesign or just me being stupid in one of the many puzzles.

While i do like the flow of the combat in this game, even tho it has its own massive flaws, the game is way to centered around the platforming aspect imo. You will often find yourselves sliding, jumping, and wallruning through gaint complexes for what feels like hours on end, not because its long, but because its extremely bland.
The most variation you will have in it however are the differences in the level design. While they are very distinguishable from each other, i was mostly annoyed by them making it sometimes much harder to see where you had to go, or by the level geometry interrupting my movement.
The movement overall feels very solid tho. But in the end most of it felt like an intermission between the next combat encounter, which i was just not a fan of.

The combat was actually fun, but raised so many questions for me.
Why do you have 4 different combat abilities...
...When you literally dont need them ever, except in the tutorial?
...When the levels rarely encourage you to use any of those?
...When there are so few amounts of enemies anyway?
The best moments of this game where the moments, when you enter a room filled with enemies, and you can choose how to handle the situation by yourself, often having to find an optimal way moving through it. As you might have already guessed however, these moments are rare. You will find yourself clearing a room full of enemies after 6 retrys like a total cyber-ninja-badass of doom, just to do a platforming puzzle with 36 retrys for the next hour. It sucks, and it makes me mad, that so much potential was just wasted. (which is overall why i write this Essay about it)
There are also some technical flaws coming along with it.
- Unforgiving hitboxes
- RNG Enemys (They wont hit a single shot, ore 360 1Tap you out of existance; Random movement patterns for teleporting enemys; ... )
- Enemies specifically designed to piss you off (I am looking at you, exploding spiderbot)
Plus some minor ones, often coming along with some movement problems.

The bossfights are not to bad, but also not very good or interesting.
The fight against Hel was pretty epic, defenitley one of my alltime favoruite Sword duel bossfights, but the one against Mara is mid at best, and the one in the elevator can go ♥♥♥♥ itself.
(like seriously why the ♥♥♥♥ did they have to make it so bad. how can anyone playtest this and think "hell yeah i love trial an erroring 90 times plus having to cheese the movement on walls to make it somewhat doable, because i am completely unable to see the laser and energy waves coming in time to react perfectly 100 times in a row without being able to save any progress between phases. HEEELL YEAHHHH" im ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pissed. its the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ first bossfight in the Game and its the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hardest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ part of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.)

Im am so pissed in fact, that i will play Ghostrunner 2 now and will be even more critical, considering how many users pointed out what flaws this game has.
