A Game About Digging A Hole

A Game About Digging a Hole is exactly what it claims to be: a game where you dig a hole.

And yet, digging has never felt this interesting… and anxiety-inducing. It’s an obsessive, almost hypnotic experience—you dig not out of need, but to understand why you’re digging. What’s down there? Why can’t I stop?

The experience is vaguely reminiscent of certain Roblox games, but with a subtle underlying lore that invites speculation. The repetitive gameplay feels like a throwback to old flash games, and that simplicity is part of its charm.

That said, there are some frustrating technical issues. Tiny floating pieces of terrain blend into the background and can damage you during descent. Also, requiring players to play three times to reach 100% feels more like a chore than a reward.

The environment is also quite bare: the house is empty and inaccessible, and the surroundings feel lifeless. A few visual narrative clues could have added a lot of depth.

Still, for the price, it’s a compelling little experiment. If you enjoy weird simulators or experimental games, it’s worth a try.
