What an awesome lil game, there's an endless mode too for whenever you're down for that.
A bit pricey for it's length but worth it for the quality of the game (Every level has different enemy types, you get cool new abilities after each level..)
Try the demo first to see if it's your thing and for sale it's a no brainer. Great game by great developers (who sadly had to stop operating due to fund problems but wish them all the best for their own endeavors).

Whoever came up with the idea to this game is an evil genius.

Horrible monetization = incredibly unrewarding game.
It's a shame, because the core gameplay can be very fun, might just be one of the better FPS games out there.. but a game cannot be fun when you basically get nothing for playing.

It doesn't feel worth to invest any time into this game.

Absolutely recommend this game, from the incredible artstyle and overall theme to the amazing base building and management aspects of the game. I will say there are stronger roguelikes gameplay-wise (that's not to say the gameplay is bad, because it actually feels good - it just lacks the depth some other popular games of the same genre do) but it would be very hard to find other games that combine different game genres as well as this one does while having such a standout and fun theme to it.

The game is basically split into two, base management (which includes taking care of your base and your cult) and the actual "roguelike game" - where you go through short but fun runs where you gain new buffs and weapons throughout. I'm a big roguelike fan and so I was extremely surprised when I found out I enjoy the base managing aspect of the game more so than the roguelike part of it. That's not because the roguelike part is bad, it's because the management aspect is absolutely fantastic.

You go through runs and collect different resources, as well as cult members, who you have to take care of. You could think about members of your cult as not-so-needy tamagotchis. The balance of fighting through the enemies while progressing the main story and then coming back to your base and gaining new unlocks that help you manage your base more effectively and even help you through your runs keep the game engaging throughout.

Earlier on I said that the roguelike side of the game is not the strongest and that because it's not really trying to be that. Games like The Binding of Isaac or Enter The Gungeon have endless replayability due to the ginormous amount of items and enemy types you can find. This game has a couple of tarot cards which make you stronger throughout runs and it has a few weapons which don't have any huge changes other than attack damage, speed and status effects you can apply to enemies. With that being said, the fighting itself feels fluid and there are enough weapons/enemy types to make this part of the game fun and engaging, at least for the first playthrough.

I'd give the game an 8/10

Seems like a great game to play on a vacation trip, although I wouldn't know because I've never been outside. 🥲

I'm no card game fan but this is legitimately amazing. This game manages to be challenging and nail-biting while also being relaxing and just casually fun. I usually quit games after the first month of playing them but this is one of the very very few games I keep coming back to.
The gameplay is actually engaging and fun from the start of a run to its finish, which is very rare for a game in the roguelike genre since you start with few items and gain more throughout. Slay the Spire is not only deck-reliant, a lot comes down to using the right cards at the right time and knowing how to attack each enemy which makes runs challenging even from the starting level.
