Lost in Random

Where to start?
In most cases my reviews are short and basic dissections of the game however this game deserves different.

Lost in Random is one of my favourite games of all time. It has a compelling storyline furthermore a unique style (dark gothic fantasy) which creates an overall immersive experience. The game has a good amount of exploration element and a decent runtime alongside. An action-adventure game [deckbuilder] with a component of puzzle solving and “open-world” travel. The game is set around various locations in The Kingdom of Random; each with its own inner community feel and aesthetic. The stylisation – of which many compared to Tim Burton – combined with a variety of context cutscenes, allow for an enjoyable story to be told. Though at some points on the edge of obvious, small details scattered about (contrast of tenses) allows for the plot to still be surprising, therefore engaging to play. In some cases, within video games, characters and their motivations are left barren, a variation when compared to literature. Lost in random, nonetheless this, provides ample side stories and even evokes hints of [realistic] character motivation, mainly of those who are lesser antagonists (e.g., Nanny Fortuna) and those symbolic (primary figures in Threedom). In addition to this, the narrator in the game has a stance of being, an existence [independence] in which relates somewhat to the narrator type in The Stanley Parable. At critical “linchpin moments” the characters shine in being unique and at times, detestable people. Gameplay is cleaner than most and many types of janky movement can be acceptable to the nature of the game being an incredible idea executed “averagely”. The card system within the game is not balanced as well as it could have been however due to the many attacks you do not commonly see in games; much can be excused. I’ve played the game four times over now (three upon this account) and the remnants of new ideas come through each time. Thematically, the game is a 10/10 howbeit for those considering purchasing the game, here are some thorough particulars on everything:

• The game uses EA’s dreaded game launcher: this might be a deal breaker for some, yet I found it can be acceptable in a similar fashion like Unravel 2.
• Character models are reused and repetitive for those who pay attention. This applies mostly to crowds, not those you interact with.

• Achievement hunters beware! Story book pages necessary for an achievement cannot be acquired once a kingdom has been passed. Other achievements dependent on locations also mean lead one to replay the game for that 100% completion.

• Keys cannot be remapped in-game. Through use of third-party software, it can be possible however latency can be affected. Beware! This is the main problem with the game.

• Graphic settings are not that adjustable. The recommendations on steam are important for once about needed hardware.

• Lastly, the game has been rushed to an extent. Not much more can be written than that. Reused audio, fetch quests and game length extended through locational back and forth. Collision, card/enemy variety, and gameplay can all be better, yet it depends on the person. I always prefer the “acting” role as the protagonist in video games and all features are baked well enough to support that. The game is humorous, stunning visually, with devs who were published under a brand many hate. The soundtrack is by Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra [so wow].

In conclusion, the game is fit for those who are not complete gamers. It should be bought when on sale (commonly happens) if one wants to purchase. If you are not a lover of repetitive enemies or cannot stand playing a game without remapping your keys, the game is probably not for you. For those who do purchase it: enjoy!

Most friendly, dedicated and kind gamer I’ve ever met. You put him in a cod lobby and instantly he would make it a friendly paradise of a game with no toxicity. Keep doing what you do best.

He has somehow managed to beat an entire substory in skyrim (30ish hours of content) before actually beating the main game and it scares me
