"The World's a Stage, but the Play is Badly Cast"
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤFrom "The Absolute Space" series
‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

‎ He was standing next to the dark yellow door somewhere in a dim void. Above the door was a sign saying: “The Absolute Space”. He wondered what it could be. Then he pushed the handle and entered.

‎ There was a plain white corridor fully filled with an extreme amount of light coming from everywhere
and nowhere simultaneously. Pure balanced light was constantly expanding the corridor, making it infinite in all three dimensions. He suddenly could feel light tranquil pulses from the air. Few moments later, after his eyes’d successfully managed to get used to the surroundings, he noticed a marble counter and a man in a striped white and black suit near him. The man came closer and said:

‎ ‘We’ve been ‎waiting for you long enough. Welcome to our today’s exhibition, “Subjects and Objects”. Nobody and nothing here is unique and special, though they think overwise’.

‎ The boy — he was a boy — could see a wide hallway ahead of him. It seemed that the corridor’d already stopped expanding in width and height but never stopped in distance. The counter and the man had dissolved. However, art displays seamlessly appeared in strict yet simple order on the right and left sides all through the hall. Like the passageway itself, displays were appearing constantly in the distance as far as the corridor continued to expand. The boy thought there was nothing special about it. It’s not unique anyway, isn’t it?

‎ Nonetheless, the boy decided to examine the exhibition, although it never could have given him any original experience.

‎ He reluctantly came to the first display on the left. It was a small white podium with a place above it precisely for a young man sitting at a poorly made desk. There was a tall stand with a sign saying: “The Unconventional Writer (a genius)”. The man was typing on a pitch black typewriter. Sometimes he stopped writing, mainly in order to concentrate on his thoughts while pinching his hand’s tissue a little. Suddenly, he noticed the boy.

‎ ‘Sorry, I’m really busy working on the book. Please go away’ he said.

‎ ‘I’ve read your book already. It’s like hundreds and hundreds of books I’ve read in my life. Nothing special’.

‎ ‘It sure is. The plot is missing but the surroundings, the unknown nature, is getting to appear so natural in its own way! I’m fed up with all these fictional otherworlds’ nature mechanisms, which are similar to ours but in drifted, disembodied wrappings. Humans are onlyness. It shouldn’t be human logic and human perception anywhere outerspace. It shouldn’t be colors and forms, it should be a matter itself...’

‎ ‘It’s not distinctive, it’s pretty common’ the boy said. ‘You have never been in outer circles full of people with the exact same idea you conducted right now. These people who you stick with are not the whole spectrum of people. It’s just you desperately looking for a feeling of particularity. You’re not special’.

‎ ‘Woolen. Heartless. Dissociative. A plane. Conduction. A pen. Likely. Grateful. An assumption...’ said a mannequin. All the wires on its wooden body, working as veins and tendons, were connected to a typewriter on its neck instead of a head. As keys were pressed on their own, hands were grotesquely twitching, having a hard time mimicking the process of typing. Papers filled with mash-upped words were flying off the machine and landing on the white floor. The sign’s text had shifted: “The Wordbox”.

‎ The boy snickered. He was going further...

It tastes bitterness. It's capricious... - Bennett Foddy

***

It's 15 min after I've "finished" this game. Not really finished, how you can see. I mean, in normal way. It was depressing and painful to play this game, but I knew it before I bought it. After 1,5 hours of painful gameplay, after another fall, feeling absolutely furious, I decided to download the "saves" for this game (which you can find in the Internet). Yea, it's not fair, but there was no way to continue this agony for me. I know I could play maybe 100 hours and finish the game in the usual way, but just think about it - "100 hours"! You can do many things at that time! Ok, let's continue...
You know, Bennett Foddy was certainly right about his project: It tastes bitterness. It's capricious... I agree with him. The first time of using "saves", I chose the one that would move me to the very end. So I got the achievement named "Got over it" and when I was upset, 'cause it wasn't my achievement. I got the achievement "Hard to the Core" (Little Nightmares, 2016) by only myself yesterday (it was completely painful, but I did it without any help), so I'm proud of it. I decided to replay this game on my own, and failed... Again ...

When I decided to think deeply about this thing, to look through a different point of view. Is it really a game? Technically, yes. But I don't think so. By comparing this project and other games, we can't see the same specifications, 'cause in other games when you make a mistake, you'll probably die. But what does it mean, "die"? It means you'll be moved back a few minutes from the point where you died. We can see another analogy. It's like when you miss a moment from a film, so you rewind it and watch it again. The same thing with books. What about "Getting Over It..."? When you make a mistake, you'll fall and you'll climb again, and again, and again. Does it sounds familiar, doesn't it? I'm talking about The Life. The life of everybody including your and mine. We make mistakes and we try to fix them. All those philosophical statements in this masterpiece were made to make this masterpiece more realistic, they make us strong, NOT to give up. But it still up to you...

I replayed this thing again. I did most of it by myself this time but still using saves in some places. Some places I skipped and I don't blame myself for this. When I used the save to skip Ice Mountain, I was near to the end, for real this time. So I finished the last part by myself, got the achievement "Got Over It, for real this time" and felt perfect. I did it again later, but without the game's musical compositions and voiceover of Bennett Foddy. Only with Relaxing Sounds from "Relax Melodies". It was more difficult than the first time, 'cause it's life (I mean reference), you can't just relax while doing something demanding full attention.
The truth is that I'm proud of the second achievement now. It seems like Bennett knew about this opportunity and made this achievement exactly for this ("Got Over It, FOR REAL THIS TIME ").

Someone thinks that this game is not for everybody. But I think it's for everyone. It's like a latte-with-double-syrup person bought a huge cup of espresso and slurped it. It tastes bitterness. It's capricious. Bennett Foddy said he'd made this game to hurt people...
I've felt pain for sure.

There is where my review ends. I thank people who have read it all.
