This game taught me a valuable lesson about the Steam review system. Don't take these things at face value, people. As much as I have enjoyed playing games with an "Overwhelmingly Positive" review average, my #1 favorite game on Steam (maybe of all time) has apparently reached its review zenith at "Mixed" --hint, it's Elite:Dangerous.

Instead of looking at the Steam reviews and making a decision, investigate the games you are interested in. You could find a streamer on Twitch or Youtube and watch real gameplay. Approach them with the questions or concerns you have to help you determine if a game is right for you. Do whatever works for you, but do something. I came a hair away from missing this, my favorite game, altogether.

Elite: Dangerous is not for everyone. You could even say it is not for MOST people. It is definitely not for those without patience. It is not for those who don't like a bit of grinding. It is not for those who get easily frustrated and want to quit when they don't understand something. Hey, no judgement here. I'm just saying, if you know that you are one of these people, then heed my advice and move on.

In my experience Elite: Dangerous IS for people who meet all, or most, of the following qualifications: People who enjoy simulation games, love Space and science fiction, enjoy role-playing and going the extra-mile to immerse yourself in something, enjoy a good challenge, enjoy management games or have good money management skills, and have good logic and deduction skills.

Having access to VR, access to a flight stick or HOTAS, access to multiple monitors (for ease of access to the 3rd party websites, databases that run alongside this game), or being an old school gamer (80's-90's) might also aide in your enjoyment of this game.

Honestly, I don't know if this game is for you or not. What I do know, is that if it IS for you, you don't want to miss it.

I do not agree - I had to spend 200 ingame to learn what an empty boring game this is! Maybe with VR its worth it.

this reads more like an excuse than a review.

it's not a good game. how are you recommending this? it's ok to like bad games, i play some myself on a regular basis. but i don't recommend them to anyone.

@loochbacca That is the beauty of Elite: Dangerous. It can be both of those things, depending on how you play.

@ Kaldor Draigo Yes, it is totally playable with mouse and keyboard. There is also a good guide on Youtube.

Is the game playable with mouse and keyboard, I don’t really have a flight stick, and I am kinda young so I don’t really have a job

im going to get just the vanilla game , I just want to ask if this is the type of game where I can sit back an relax or be on the edge of my seat for the duration of 5.6 billion hours.

Millenials will downvote anything that they can't understand in less than 5 minutes, because the instant gratification generation just can't handle it
