Early Access Review
This racing game is simply great. The controls are snappy, the visuals are perfect for the atmosphere that the music sets, and the music itself is phenomenal (also the OST is on bandcamp). It's like the game was made by someone who actually loves video games!

I've been playing mostly career mode on Ace (Hard) difficulty, and I must say that it's been a very long time since I've played something where the developer expects the player to actually learn the mechanics on an intricate level. It's not BS, but if you don't know all of the little interactions that your controls have with the physics, you will eventually hit a wall and have to bump down the difficulty. That said, the game was still fun when I started on Expert (Normal). It gave me a chance to understand the basics but wasn't a total pushover either.

The little differences that separate this game from its inspiration are the mechanics. Life and boost are separate, but there is a new mechanic called Final Burn that is completely genius. It's risky, extremely fun, cool, and rewarding. And the fact that you can recover health back by continuing to hit fire spots is an excellent addition. This mechanic alone makes the change totally worth it. In fact, I wish F-Zero could do something similar.

Also, Drill Dive is another exciting mechanic. It makes it so that taking a jump is more than just taking a jump. The speed boost on the way down, and having to time the release of the button so you get another little boost on landing really makes every jump interactive.

This game takes your full attention to play well. These kinds of games are my favorite. The kind of game that makes you forget to eat dinner because you're so focused on the races and having an equal amount of fun. This game is a must-play. You just have to.
