Early Access Review
TL;DR This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing. Stop reading reviews and buy it right now.

If you're like me, you saw the Early Access banner and hesitated because you've been hurt by Early Access games too many times before. Let me be one of the many reviewers to tell you that this is one of the most wholesome Early Access games I've ever played. There are plenty of things to do in this game to keep you busy as well as entertained, and honestly, $20 CAD is a steal imo.

Everything you do in this game (Running, jumping, swimming and individual weapons) is a skill that can be improved. When I slapped a tree with a club and saw "Woodcutting increased to 2" the Oldschool Runescape player in me had a mini orgasm and I've been hooked ever since.

The building in this game feels good. Its not like Minecraft where you can build a 3x1 bridge across a chasm though. You have to use poles and beams to support ceilings and your roof (depending on how grand your home will be of course). It's similar to rust in its simplicity, however. The floors, walls, beams, poles and roof pieces all snap together and line up nicely. You can spend hours (like me) building various things for you base.

As of now, there are currently 5 bosses that can be fought at specific "altars" placed around the map. Each boss drops a specific item that is necessary to progress, which I love. It forces the player out of their "comfort zone" so to speak, and makes exploring the map mandatory. There are little "tablets" you can find that mark the boss altars on your map, but each boss requires a specific item(s), which is only hinted at when you find the altar, forcing you to figure out what the item is and find it. Most games today take you by the hand and tell you exactly where to go and exactly what to do. This game gives you all the pieces to the puzzle and forces you to put it together. (There's a wiki if you get stuck though!)

There's mining, There's smithing, There's crafting, There's farming, There's fishing however, this game is, at it's core, a survival game. and with that come certain elements: You have to eat to keep your Health and Stamina high, you are vulnerable to being "wet" and "cold" which makes having a roof over your head and a fire a top priority starting out. You can also craft potions to help with certain fights (Poison resistance for the Swamp is a must!). There's a bit of strategy here as well in that you can't just spam-click your cooked meat when you're about to die. You can only eat 3 foods at a time and each food increases your Health, Stamina and Regen differently. The better quality your food, the deeper your Health and Stamina pools are.

There is also a complete 2021 Roadmap as far as updates and planned content. From what I can see this game has a very bright future and I am very excited to see where it goes.

If you've made it this far, May the All-father bless and guide you. Skaaal!
