If you watched the walking dead, you may know as the seasons go on, the zombies become less the focus of the story and more the setdressing to it.

That's exactly what has happened here. The inital shock of what you have to do to survive is lost, as society has been surviving the Frost for decades now. Now is the time to learn how to thrive, how to truly live in this new world.

This isn't a story where you get to know the individual people, where all the intimate stories you get are front and center. The scale and stakes are different, and you know what? That's okay.

This was the obvious direction for the series to go, and the mechanics of the game are ones that fit PERFECTLY where the game is trying to focus it's impact: A story of factions all wanting what's best, but never really being able to agree on how to do it. This is a story all about the politics of a growing city at the end of the world, not one trying to hold on.

Accept this going into the game, and you will have an AMAZING time. There are hard choices to be made, and times that make you want to pull your hair out because someone is raising hell at just the wrong time when you need stakes to be lower.

Without spoilers, Chapter 4 and 5 are amazing and just really set you up for how intense this game's mechanics can be, even with how little you are ultimately doing.

Janky, buggy, Sometimes unclear why something is happening, and it won't stop trying to launch SteamVR. The fix to make it stop ended up messing up my install of SteamVR and caused my full body calibration software to corrupt.

Come on, we can do better on liminal space horror

The first month I owned this game, I sunk 250 hours into it within a month. Every time I pop back in for updates, I see quality of life stuff updated, more little things added, just everything working that much more polished and welcoming for newer players.

There is nothing that's quite like it. This thing is like the mix between Cities Skylines and Factorio, in one of the most unique settings. This is by far one of my favorite games of the decade. If you are even remotely thinking about it, buy it.

Please don't be afraid to work your way up with new cities though, the difficulty is super customizable, and can get BRUTALLY HARD to plan your city

Legitimately and unironically one of the best things to happen to gaming in a long time.

I've bought the game on multiple platforms at this point, put many more hours in this game than steam shows, I've bought it for others because this game when it came out was my darling. The campaign is short, but never feels like it has any filler, the titan design and play with eachother is amazing. The movement is second to none in every aspect. There is a reason every time someone mentions Titanfall 2 someone in the room will freak out with giddy excitement.

However...

I would caution those jumping in for the first time. I want to love the multiplayer like I used to, but at this point I just can't because the people who never stopped playing the game have gotten that good, that it's hard to not get demotivated trying to keep up. Even in modes like attrition where you could make up for being worse by focusing grunts isn't reliable because a game can be so one sided with these veteran players that you just can't get the chance.

The multiplayer has died and been reborn about 4 times over for this exact reason, new players coming in don't stick around because they don't have the environment to "get good" the rest of us had when the game launched, and further beat down when they voice this frustration (Seriously, some of yall in the community hub are toxic af).

Those who have this frustration, I know it's not the best option, but frontier defense at this point is about where I have made my home in this game. It's not what I'd prefer, but to play this game again, I feel it's better than not. If you have hesitations, at least get it for the campaign. It's like an amazing romp through a sunday morning cartoon in all it's campy glory with some of the best sandbox you will find in games recently.

Standby for Titanfall, one of my favorite memories in gaming

I was sent a key for this game, and after seeing them linking not the steam store page for this... but an entirely different game at the time I got the key was all I needed to know how terrible quality this was going to be.

This game is absolute garbage. There is no degree of polish except maybe SOME of the visuals, that isn't to include the ungodly amount of motion blur I couldn't remotely find how to take off, which got applied to the world in the driving sections somehow, which made it look like everyone was driving through TV static

Look, this game has a good IDEA but given how even at the main character leader select the VASTLY different audio quality is, and this is their attempt to try and get you to like their game to buy the full game when it comes out (Also... why not make a demo as part of that game, why is this considered an ENTIRELY different game?) I'm seeing this as someone who saw Frostpunk and copied their notes, but then they spilled whiteout over the page and turned it into a unreal engine asset flip.

Most of the fun I had streaming this was honestly making fun of it. When you get going right, there is no challenge so far, and it feels like they tried to jump on a colony sim craze, but completely missed what make these games fun, which is having to balance your resources and having to struggle to make things work.

Don't give this game a pass because it's free. It's a stupid marking thing to get you to give it a bit of lenience because it's actually just a demo of their full game that will come out.... at some time? They clearly don't have the skill it would take as it is to make something this complex remotely work well. On that note have a fun trip looking at the dev/publisher's other games, and be sure to count how many other games have these "prologue" versions but no full release. I feel like that should speak to something as well...
