I decided to give this game a go because of Obsidian's track record. The overall reviews being average and being a fan of Pillars of Eternity and similar games in general. Avowed is just not it. Combat can keep it interesting for some time but after playing as close as I can to refund hours I found nothing but an empty shallow husk of an RPG. If you're interested in a multi-layered, dialogue driven RPG, then don't look here. It's just not good enough. Don't waste your money on an expectation that this game will never meet. Welcome to mediocrity: 5/10.

Act I introduces the player into the world of Baldurs Gate 3 very well. The game is immediately engaging and introduces a roster of companions and story lines that one won't easily forget. The amount of exploration and opportunity in Act I alone is worth full price in my personal opinion, everything that comes after is extra to the benefit of us players. Act II brings a stark contrast to the open world of Act I and along with that comes a experience that gamers should not miss. The only downside I would say is that Act III feels seemingly rushed at the moment. It's still solid and certainly wraps up the game in a good way but it's not the same quality or as polished of Act I and Act II. Regardless of that downside it's a solid 9/10 for me and a must have for all that enjoy RPG's and I might even go as far as to say it could even be something for those that are not usually into these types of games.

I am sad that I supported a company and its toxic management like this one by buying it's games. I don't recommend supporting a developer that treats it's contractors and employees the way this one does. Please do not buy this game.

Recommend despite the technical issues that it is facing. As a Souls fan this is the culmination of everything that I have been waiting to see in one of FromSoftware's titles. I hope the technical issues are fixed soon so that all PC players are able to enjoy the game the way it is meant to be enjoyed. Despite the issues that the game is facing it is still not a game for everyone. It does not hold your hand like other open world games would and some players might experience that as bad game design. For some players the learning-curve might be to steep due to the difficulty. For others the style of the game might not be what you like, all Souls games stick to certain formulas that are not for everyone. Looking at the game and what it has to offer: A massive and beautiful open world filled with secrets, quests and dungeons to explore, a solid and proven combat system, challenging enemies and loads of awesome boss fights then if the game's style appeals to you and you are able to look beyond the technical problems which I am sure will be fixed soon then this is the game for you.
