Basic Spec Info:
RTX 4070Ti Super
Ryzen 9 7950X3D
64GB RAM

With the game stored on a 4TB SSD, I have experienced no FPS drops, let alone a single crash. There are a vast number of small visual and input bugs that still need fixing, but it's not the worst console-to-PC port in existence and it's only been two weeks since release. The game's main story can be completed in around a 20-hour span of time playing the game at a normal pace doing exclusively main missions.

Stop review bombing games for not being optimized well on launch for middle-to-low-tier specs. Run the game on an SSD. If you don't have an SSD, get used to struggling running video games in the current gen. Developers shouldn't have to put in extra work so that a current-gen game can be compatible with hardware from several generations ago. That being said, I really wish that developers would stop releasing unfinished games. (While Spider-Man 2 is a fully developed game by this point, the PC port itself is not.)

I find it strange that individuals with better GPUs and presumably every other PC part than I are experiencing such bad and consistent crashes that they feel the need to give the game a negative review, but I cannot speak for anyone other than myself. If you are looking to buy this game and have not already, wait a month or two for the patches and optimization to roll in. It clearly was not released in a state in which it was ready, but my review remains positive overall for the gameplay and story itself.

Changing to a positive review, because I would say the good outweighs the bad.

Combat is responsive and engaging with pretty much any playstyle and character class, the new class spec system is phenomenal, and mechanically the game is sound after a year of having been released. There are a myriad of bugs that still plague the game, but it's playable.

However, the overwhelming amount of net lag and painfully long load times I experience due to how poorly optimized the game is still makes it a challenge to enjoy myself while playing, and that's on a good day when I can play at all. Me and several others experience the same issues over a variety of PC specs, from high to low end.

Paid cosmetics and microtransactions are how companies earn their money. In this regard, the cosmetics for each class aren't terrible. However, it's really annoying to see cosmetics from other sets placed into different packages or just recolors of one part of an armor piece as a completely different set. Their ingame shop also works entirely off of FOMO, swapping one of three cosmetic packs out for each class every two weeks. Of which by now there are probably several dozen that haven't seen the light of day since release.

My final criticism *would* be the lack of story but that is also finally being remedied. Granted, it takes 6 months for them to push a new mission out or any new content whatsoever, I hope that with time we'll have something worthy of calling a 'story' for this game.

Leveling and obtaining currency not just early on, but throughout, was one of Darktide's largest issues as a game. Only by spending several hours a day on the game (which many people do not have) were you able to obtain a large enough quantity of plasteel to upgrade a single weapon. This has since been changed with yet another major update, and the introduction of a new crafting system that is far more intuitive and player-friendly.

Still, I say, wait for a sale. This game still is not yet worth the price tag that Fatshark has set for it, in my opinion.

It simply is not fun.

I understand that the game is intended to be complex, but there comes a point where "complex" turns into "overcomplicated". The controls aren't an issue, but the damage system is confusing, the tutorial provides little to no context outside of a handful of extremely basic things, and even lone zombies can provide far more of a challenge than they should. Not only that, but you will find yourself dealing with unrealistic levels of zombies chasing after you simply because one just happened to bang on a window of the house you're scavenging around in. Debuffs are constant and consistently being stacked onto you until you topple over and get eaten alive. After hours of gameplay, I can still barely find my way around any map I play on. I have tried my hardest to enjoy this game, but for anyone who likes nuanced, inconsistent and vaguely detailed games, I guess this is for you. I know it's not for me.
