Easily one of the best simulation/strategy games available on steam, and the most refined Dwart Fortress clone yet.

The game on its own is fantastic, but couple that with the fantastic mod community, this game is a true winner.

Rimworld works similar to the tired survival sim genre as a whole, but charges you with the role of managing a group of kleptomaniac, psychotic, and just plain insane individuals who are just trying to survive. Build a base, get food sources going, defend against attackers, complete quests for nearby guilds and towns, accept new villagers, and just build up until you have a thriving colony, or everyone is killed horribly (inevitable).

This kind of game doesnt excel on it's gameplay typically, but rimworld is compelling and tense, ♥♥♥♥ can just happen at the drop of hat and suddenly your colony is being overrun by maniac deer. Building up a base and competing against the elements is fun, and challenging.

Where Rimworld truly excels however is the potential for emergent storytelling, with each member of your colony having a unique personality, set of skills and abilities, they will react and do things differemtly depending on the situation. Such as: start fights with each other, make friends with an exploding monster, burn down crops and homes, create works of art, or just generally get themselves into trouble, and you have to get them out of it.

Highly recommend Rimworld, its easily one of my all time favorites.
