the bus
you look up at the sky. No stars. No sky, just the bottom of the bridge. You cast your eyes back down to horizontal. Too fast, you feel dizzy. The lights are fuzzy. Fuzzier than you remember. You make a note to get your eyes checked. Was that someone calling your name? You seem to be standing with a group of people. Where did they all come from? The night started with just a couple, now theres a big group of about 10 or 40. Was it just one night or two? It's still the weekend. Probably. Although there doesn't seem to be anybody else out...

Your name is called again and you see a river of movement in front of you. All your friends are boarding the bus. They have boarded. You jump on quickly and fumble for your wallet. No smart rider. Theres a couple of coins though. The bus driver is looking at you too much. You ask if you can get a ticket to Perth. You are already in Perth. You ask if you can get a ticket to Perth Station. The bus driver says something. You ask him if you can get a ticket to Perth Station for $1. You give the bus driver your wallet. It feels light... where have all your cards gone? The bus driver gives you back your wallet without taking anything and closes the door. He says its ok. He makes eye contact. Too much eye contact. You walk down the bus. Your friends didnt help you. Are they your friends? The bus driver looked at you. Your friends abandoned you. You spit on the floor of the bus

Parting the sea
You work outside a school. Monitoring the bus services, making sure it runs smoothly. Lots of students use the bus. They crowd onto the bus, boarding quickly and with disregard for personal space. It works well, with buses dwelling for short periods of term before taking off on towards their windy, suburban routes.

After admiring the efficient operation, you wander around the corner to catch a bus home. Waiting at the bus stop is about 20-30 high school students. You wait a few metres back, prepared to wait out the inevitable tsunami of students boarding the bus. The bus arrives, and opens its doors. That instant, a student at the front said "let the man through", and every single student looked at you and parted the sea, leaving a clear, unobstructed path to the bus door.

Without further ado, you start to walk forwards, compelled by the momentary attention of a large group. You get on the bus and find a seat. It is a nice electric bus, and the ride home goes without a hitch.
