Edit as of 04.10.2023:Update #13 brought in effectively 8 new 'core' classes thanks to the new talents trees. The abilities can really be mixed and matched with a lot of variety and offer a stupid amount of combinations. While the game is still content light (no new weapons/missions as of yet), this version of the game is effectively what it should've been on release. If you're on the fence about trying it out, now is probably the best time.

All of the issues that I've written about below are still present to some extent, but the most egregious ones are either fixed completely or vastly improved. If you can get past the few noteworthy issues this game has now, it's an easy recommendation on my part.

Darktide is really an amazing coop horde shooter, probably one of the best on the market, but it's surrounded by absolutely idiotic design choices, a predatory cash shop and developers that keep fumbling the most basic of things while ignoring the community and the long standing issues that have been present with launch (things like update cadence, unsatisfying progression loop, dripfeeding content, idiotic map board design, lack of non $$$ cosmetics or much of anything to strive and grind for as a player. And no, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ recolors for ridiculous credit amounts hardly count)

The only saving grace is the absolutely stellar core gameplay, the music and the environment/level design - this is real triple A quality. But everything else just sours the experience so bad that I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who was expecting an upgrade over Vermintide 2, or just a finished product in general.

It might take over a year for Fatshark to finally pull their heads out of their asses and fix the issues that plague this game for good while adding meaningful content, but at the moment it seems like wishful thinking at best. While i got my 500+ hours out of the game and will continue to play more, as the game scratches that itch for me that no other title does, I think there are better ways to spend your money at this time.

If it's your first time with the Tide games, just go play V2 for a finished experience then come back here later, assuming there's anything to come back to.

If you're a long time fan of the series and a fan of warhammer that can ignore the most glaring issues with the game and are hellbent on playing a 40k shooter, I'd suggest waiting on a sale and to play exteremely casually. Playing for longer will just burn you out.
