Rise is pretty good. There a lot of good things about rise, things that were added and changed, so i'll list them all out;

+Palicoes now come to your aid a lot more frequently, in world if you were stunned or paralysed your palico would come to knock you out of it once in a blue moon, now it happens if they're as much as looking at you. A great change which makes them feel a lot more useful.

+Palamutes were added, they're basically a dog version of a palico, you can ride them, attack with them, climb with them, and drift on them.

+The movement feels a lot more snappy and fast, which was probably due to the wirebug addition. A great change nonetheless.

+The wirebug mechanic was added, this is both a movement and combat addon which, upon use, will either throw you forward spiderman style or allow you to land a devastating attack during combat.

+In world, potions would heal you overtime, and you would have to wait ~5 seconds to drink a full potion, now half of the health is instantly restored upon use and the rest of the health is restored over the animation.

+The handler is gone, thank god.

+The game feels a lot more like a classic monster hunter game than world. The aesthetic really takes you back to the psp days.

+The game now has an eastern look, which to me is a lot better compared to world's heavily western inspired village.

+The combat is extremely fluid, everything flows and feels like you're always in control. It feels extremely mechanical while flowing like water.

+Infamous monsters like the khezu have made a return. But they're nowhere near as powerful as their former glory.

Now that the pros have been listed, I'll list the things that I didn't like (even though a lot are nit picks)

-Facial animations while sharpening were removed, in world, your character used to look determined while sharpening, then smile as they viewed their sword.

-2 stage walking animations are gone, if you played a female character, you'd start off by walking in a masculine way, then switch to a feminine way.

-Footprints were removed, they were a great thing in world. Having to actually track down a monster felt like you were really a hunter in a wild land.

-Turf wars are completely gone. This was one of the worst removals in my opinion, watching a rival walk in and battle the monster you're hunting for turf was amazing. It made you feel as if you were in a real ecosystem. But not just that, there were special animations during a turf war, where monsters would grab each others in their mouths and throw them, or topple them with a devastating claw. The feature was so good that I sometimes found myself trying to lure in rival monsters during a fight, so that i could watch a turf war happen and take advantage of it.

-The wirebug addition was great, but the wirefall mechanic wasn't. Wirefalling in the game meant that once you took damage and got thrown, you could instantly recover into a safe distance so that you could hear. In my opinion it completely removes the danger of the monsters and it feels more like you're just fighting an idiot monster that just watches as you heal to full health after getting hit once.

-The wyvern riding mechanic is forced, and isn't fun to use. Wyvern riding is when you weaken a monster to a point where you can control it, and fight other monsters, which in theory sounds crazy, but it's forced onto you. You can't fight a monster and not wyvern ride it. It's either you hit it once and get forced into it, or you wait 10 seconds for the monster to recover. Forcing such a big thing doesn't make you feel like a hunter, it makes you feel like an npc.

-Monsters no longer have nests or living habits. A great jagras in world would run away once weak and look for an animal to eat, after which it would move to it's den to digest the food, a tobi-kadachi in world would kill an animal and tear it's flesh, and it would take it to it's den to eat. Things like these are gone now and it makes the game feel less immersive and detailed. The rathalos and rathian no longer look for high areas to fall asleep in, they'll just choose some random patch of grass instead.

-The graphics have their own style, but since it's a switch port, everything is low detail. Having a 1440p monitor just makes it worse as the textures seem to cap out at 1080p. I felt like I was playing a ds game and it was so annoying to a point where I forced the game to render at 2x resolution.

-The hud and UI aren't rescaled either, so you'll be seeing a blocky mess most of the time.

-Mud created by monsters like the barroth no longer make you trip and crawl through the mud like in world. Now it just slows you down. It was a nice touch of detail to see my character try to crawl through thick mud because I wasn't smart enough to slowly walk out, now I can just run straight through it.

-The longsword is stupidly versatile. In world a team comp was pretty highly encouraged, ranged to stun the monsters and deal damage when the close ups can't, insect glaive to mount and topple a monster, and the heavy weapons to deal all of the damage when the monster is either stunned or toppled. Now I can just solo a monster in 10 minutes with a longsword, like what?

-Monster mounting is gone, and was replaced with wyvern riding.

-Attacking during a slide was removed for some reason.

-The game feels noticeably easier. Being an iceborne player I thought I would be dealing with a bigger challenge, more damage, more risks being taken, but it just feels like very early game world.

-Baiting animals into barrels is either a lot harder or impossible now. In world you could place a few bombs and lure an animal into them when they attacked, in rise I haven't been able to do it once.

-Palico customisation is worse. You can't choose your palicoes face shape and can't adjust the length or density of fur. Not to mention that the fur looks a lot worse, which makes sense since it's a switch port.

-The combat guide on the top right that was in world has been removed, now you can't see your possible options of attacks, which kind of makes combat feel more of trial and error.

-The quest board in world was removed in favour of a separated quest style of village and hub quests. To me it just feels out dated and annoying to have to deal with. Why not just separate them in a subsection, instead of having to go to a different area just to do a quest why not talk to one person and have a choice between the two.

-Decorating your room with endemic life was removed, not sure why.

To me rise feels like a game that was rushed, and feels like it has a lot of missing details which makes the game feel more like an annual release cash grab than a monster hunter game with effort put into it. But since it's a monster hunter game there's still a lot of fun to be had.

SHOULD YOU BUY THIS GAME?
ON SALE? YES. Get this game if it's on sale, it would be worth the money, having a blast in any monster hunter game with your friends is something that's well worth paying $20 for.

FULL PRICE? NO. Even though it's a lot of fun, it's not worth the $90 AUD price tag it has. You could buy world and iceborne for cheaper on some websites and have an unbeatable amount of content and detail to go through. Hell, you could get the mhw digital deluxe for cheaper, and have the best monster hunter experience for the price.

IS IT FUN?
WITH FRIENDS? YES. This is a given, being on a call while smashing a monsters head in is great fun, going through quests and making fun of the cringe story and voice acting is hilarious. Being with friends to experience a mh game is a must.

ALONE? MEH. Alone it's fun, but stagnates quickly. When you're with friends you're working collectively to knock out an ahole monster that's terrorising the ecosystem, but alone it just feels like a bit of a grind, monsters will take a good amount of time to kill, and if you're dying a lot it can get frustrating.

Fun game, unforgiving if you're trying to get into ranked since there are ♥♥♥♥ tons of smurfs and cheaters. But at least they're doing something, right??

This game is decent.
It's not good, and it's not bad. It's a game to play when you have nothing else to play.

This game is the example of something that looks good on paper, but didn't do so well in practice.

The story is alright, the voice acting is cheesy at best, but it's something better than p0rn acting. The quests are fun if you consider walking around the globe for 10 minutes to be fun. But the main quests are where everything was really done best. But even though the story is alright, the gameplay in the story isn't. You'll be either walking around killing a bunch of enemies, walking around looking for things, or walking around talking to people. This game doesn't really make you do much else, like buy an estate, or transfer items via caravan, or farm and pillage.

Getting items is fun, if you want to get the cream of the crop in terms of items you're gonna *have* to work hard. From getting rich to killing region wide bosses (yes the whole region shares damage) everything will feel worth it in the end.

But that's the problem. You get good weapons from either paying, farming, or buying. Which seems good, but you barely get anything good in the questlines. Which is really a shame, given how long the questlines are.

The PVP is good, if you're living in the two regions they provide. But if you're anywhere else, good luck, because you'll be getting stun locked since you're just standing on the other persons screen due to the high as hell ping.

But jesus christ

The micro-transactions.

The micro-transactions can't even be called micro-transactions anymore, you might as well just call them psychological torture.
To even change your horse's skills you need to pay money.
If you want to have more characters you need to pay money.
This game gives you a taste of what it's like paying money at the start then seduces you into pulling out another 20.
It's digitised edging.
Outfits are skimpy half of the time, to the point where they started selling underwear for characters, but if you're a coomer it's the perfect game for you.

All-in-all, this game is okay, it doesn't have the lore of dark souls, or the combat of something like kurtzpel, but it's good. Should you buy it on sale? Yeah, give it a go, but otherwise just leave it and play something else. If you're a coomer, or just a depressed person who finds no joy in anything then this game is for you.

This game was good when you could walk around and find a minicopter on the road.
Now you can't do as much as find a horse without going on a 5 hour journey.
The developers wanted to force cars on us and just ended up making minicopters impossible to get except for zergs.
We never got modular guns. Instead we got ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sharks?
The developers forced so much unnecessary bullcrap that it's taken the fun out of the game.
You used to be able to spawn, go around, and literally do what you want. Now the game's turned into a low tier mmorpg and you can't do anything without spending 3 days farming for it.
