This can be a fun game, but it has some glaring issues that I think make it a game I wouldn't recommend to others. I honestly only play this game anymore for two reasons: my friends play and it's decent for streaming content sometimes.

The biggest and worst glaring issue is the lack of action on the developer's part for dealing with cheaters. There is a lot of subtle cheating that happens in this game and really wrecks it. Some things that aren't even cheats but are just obnoxious (I'm looking at you auto-clicker folks).

Second is the toxicity. It doesn't matter which side you play (survivor or killer), you're going to end up dealing with toxic people. Some of it depends on what time of day you play at, and what time of the month, but when it gets as sweaty as it does it's just not fun. Sometimes your team mates even sabotage you to save themselves and it's just gross. We're not even going to get into the end-game chat... ugh. And for this reason too DBD is not a good game to play if you easily get frustrated or upset.

Third are all the bugs. DBD is full of bugs and the developers are too busy releasing more DLC and other things for folks to buy to actually fix these things. Really, really frustrating.

You'll also find that unless you play as a full group of four people when running survivor, that the game is extremely killer sided. I know this it hotly argued, but as someone who plays both sides I can say that in my experience it's far easier to play killer against a group of survivors who are not in discord coms together than it is to play survivor with three other random folks. In addition if a killer decides to just camp and/or tunnel (which DBD has said are valid tactics even though they ruin the fun for the survivors) it means that either you have to sacrifice your team mate(s) or you have to basically hand the killer a 4k. It's really, really problematic.

Then there are the hit boxes and latency issues. It seems like DBD uses square hit boxes, and times everything to the killer's side because there have been plenty of times where a hatchet has hit around a corner or you hear the killer whiff only to suddenly be hit--and you can't figure out why. Makes it extremely tricky to judge how well you're about to dodge an attack or time a perk to help you out. Similarly, if a killer VPNs in they can lag so bad that it can cause the survivors to lag and definitely gives them the advantage because again, the hits are based off the killer and not the survivor.

There's a reason DBD seems to be dying when you look up how many folks are playing on average these days, and it's because it feels like there will be no resolution to many issues the community brings forth and the environment is toxic af. If the above issues don't bother you then you'll be fine, because DBD is a fairly unique game that can be wildly addictive. But if you can't handle the above, definitely don't get this game.
