Furi has recently come to be my favorite game of all time. It's the perfect storm of a game. Whether its the music driving you forward to the next stop in your journey, or the moments of exposition walking through the beautiful world, it's something I don't think will be seen anywhere else.

This is a game that serves it's purpose as a game to the maximum, really immersing you in each fight, and the world itself. It so easily takes you out of reality, trying a boss over and over again will make the clock speed up, spending hours without notice. Now, to some actual gameplay highlights.

The Combat. Simple, but effective. Each hit with your sword has a satisfying weight behind it, especially while chaining attacks together, or just in general. The combat mechanics being simple themselves actually help the game, as it can be easy to master, and gives you more time to focus on the absolute madness that goes on.

The Bosses. Each boss is it's own archetype for the most part, and plays differently. (Not to mention that the Furier difficulty unlocked after the game changes most of the ranged attacks for each boss). Bosses usually have upwards of 3-4+ phases, each phase of differing difficulty, not in any particular order. Some bosses might be easy and the start and finish, but difficult in the middle. This I think does more than most realize, not making the bosses feel too same-y and formulaic.
In terms of what the actual fights involve can range from bullet hell, to close quarters sword fighting, or to overall chaos. Sometimes it can be a mix off everything, and you'll never know until you try.

The Soundtrack. Where do you start? This is by far the most compelling and emotional soundtracks in a game. Honestly, if this game was just someone else playing the bosses, and I got to sit and listen to the music, I would still laud it as an amazing game. It's always a treat to listen to, and I listen to it outside of the game all the time. 10/10 on the music.

The Story. Now I don't want to spoil anything here, but what I'll say is this. The story isn't anything crazy elaborate, but one that still makes you think a bit. It's morally ambiguous, and I like it that way.

Final Rating. I'd give this game a 10/10 if you asked for a quantitative rating, but I don't think that would do it too much justice in all honesty. It may not be for everyone, but in I think everyone who sees this game can appreciate something about it. It's fast, chaotic, beautiful, and pure fun to play. Give it a try. The Jailer is the key. Kill him, and you'll be free.
